Project Engineer - Manufacturing

*Relocation assistance is available. Columbus, OH is ideal but there are other locations across the country that are close to a international airport, and ideally close to one of the manufacturing plants for which there are over 50 in the USA.
Summary:
We are seeking a highly-skilled, team-oriented project engineer to join an established and growing company. In this position, project engineers oversee all engineering and technical aspects of our projects to assure the highest level of accuracy and quality. Project engineers prepare, schedule, coordinate, and monitor assigned engineering projects, complying with applicable codes, practices, QA/QC policies, performance standards, and specifications.
Project Engineers are the technical support for our manufacturing facilities on a large scale. They need to be proficient in reviewing designs and blueprints of moderately complex equipment and assemblies utilizing 2D and 3D models. Also, they need to work closely with the plant manufacturing teams to determine equipment needs and develop equipment specifications based on those needs. In addition, the Project Engineers work with the manufacturing and finance teams to develop capital expenditure projects that provide justification and purchase and install capital equipment aligning with the overall needs of our client. Moreover, they provide the necessary project documentation and training to support the equipment installation and operation. Project Engineers also work with the manufacturing teams on support continuous improvement activities.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Completes engineering projects by organizing and controlling project elements including scope, planning and execution.
- Develops project objectives by reviewing project proposals and plans and conferring with management.
- Determines project responsibilities by identifying project phases and elements, assigning personnel to phases and elements, and reviewing bids from vendors.
- Determines project specifications by studying product schematics, customer requirements, and performance standards.
- Maintains quality control in every area (budget, scheduling, planning, personnel performance, team dynamics).
- Maintains project schedule by monitoring project progress, coordinating activities, and resolving problems.
- Prepares project status reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information; and recommending actions.
- Collaborates with various teams within the organization to develop new equipment specifications.
- Investigates and presents quote packages to vendors and monitor RFQ process.
- Provides necessary support for capital expenditure approval, including recommended vendor selection.
- Oversees Project Budgeting & Equipment Purchases.
- Performs equipment acceptance run-off and verifies equipment meets all of the requirements of the specification.
- Develops standard work for production associates.
- Ensures all necessary deliverables (drawing, spare parts lists, etc.) are provided to the various teams.
- Oversees facility preparations and equipment installations.
- Provides critical on-site support for equipment installation including equipment troubleshooting and operator & maintenance trainings.

Educational Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s of Science in Mechanical Engineering/Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Engineering/Engineering Technology, Plastic Manufacturing, or other related discipline
- 2+ years of project management experience working in the manufacturing industry
Preferred Experience:
- 2+ years of experience in Plastic Extrusion manufacturing or similar
- Project Management certification is preferred, but not required
- Six Sigma Green Belt is preferred, but not required
- Physical Requirements:
- Able to travel up to 50%
- Able to work on equipment in Manufacturing Environment

- Are you willing and able to meet the 35-50% travel requirement? Anticipated travel is 40%. Travel is typically within the continental 48 states and, on rare occasions, Canada. Travel is helping to oversee 2-3 week long projects, and they while they don't occur every month, there may be a couple day fly outs to plants as well. There may be opportunities to come home on weekends, though from a company expense perspective, it's preferred if someone can often stay in the traveled area for the duration of the 2-3 week long projects. Travel arrangements including air plane tickets, hotel, rental, and per diems are provided.
