Life Skills Teacher (Mephibo’s House)

Primary Description
We are searching for a Life Skills Teacher for our Mephibo’s House program under Mercy Road. This is a position for the individual who wants to combine his/her skills with our talented team in a challenging, rewarding, and innovative environment. This position for the Mephibo’s House - Life Skills program, will develop, facilitate, train, teach, and model the classes and curriculum on independent living skills-based programming for adults with disabilities. This position reports to the Life Skills Manager and Director of Mephibo’s House.
Status: Non- Exempt, (Hourly), 20-25 hrs/week

● Teach and Facilitate the following lessons in Life Skills: Culinary, Interpersonal Skills, Communication Skills, Practical Living Skills, and Problem Solving Skills.
● Build positive relationships with all cohorts participants, community partners, stakeholders and their families/caregivers.
● Engaging and facilitating active lessons with community partners.
● Provide our adults with disabilities with learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth.
● Develop or modify curricula and prepare lessons and other instructional materials to participant ability levels.
● Collaboratively work with a team, departmental, or itinerant capacity as assigned.
● Effective communicator: demonstrate high emotional intelligence and excellent communication skills to include ongoing communication with families and caregivers, Life Skills participants, staff, and towel holders.

Educational and Professional Requirements
● Associate’s Degree required (Bachelor’s Degree preferred)
● Must be able to multitask; be productive, focused, and flexible in a creative & sometimes chaotic environment.
● Ability to give clear directions and lead in a classroom/group environment
● Must be able to work independently with little oversight while maintaining a high degree of quality and professionalism
● Have a natural ability to interact and communicate effectively with people of all ages and backgrounds.
● Preferred experience/education/training in hospitality
● Preferred special needs community experience
