Brighton Surgery Center’s main service is ophthalmology with some podiatry service as well. The Registered Nurse in the Pre-Anesthesia Holding area will provide optimum patient care based on assessment of patients physical and psychosocial needs. He/she is responsible for implementation of the patients’ plan of care, including explanation of surgical procedures, required teaching and communication with other team members. He/she will provide a positive and professional atmosphere so as to enhance the patients’ surgical experience and provide for smooth functioning of BSC.
Duties and Responsibilities for pre-op RN include but are not exclusive to:
- Takes primary responsibility for: verifying all pre-op information and preparing the patient for surgery.
- Responsible for contacting the patients for the following day’s surgical schedule to give pre-op information.
- Contacts all patients from previous day’s cases to check on them.
- Works collaboratively with other team members.
- Documentation on EMR.
Duties and Responsibilities for post-op RN Phase I and Phase II include but are not exclusive to:
- Recover patients receiving general anesthesia (pediatrics, Ophthalmology, Podiatry), or monitored anesthesia care (MAC).
- Communicates any problems the patient is experiencing with anesthesia provider.
- Assess, plan, organize and implement the plan of care specific to the patient and BSC policies. Implement physician orders. Ensuring patients’ physical and psychosocial needs will be addressed and met prior to discharge.
- Documentation on EMR.
Experience:
Minimum of two years peri-operative nursing experience. Currently registered to practice professional nursing in New York State. Bachelor of Science degree encouraged. Previous 3-5 years’ experience desirable.
