Overview of Position:
The job of Special Education Teacher for the purpose of providing support to the instructional program with specific responsibility for assisting in the supervision, care, and instruction of students with special needs in the general education setting classroom; developing and implementing plans for instruction; monitoring student behavior; and supporting access to the general education curriculum while ensuring open communication to appropriate school personnel.
DLS can offer flexible hours for this position, as long as legal and ethical requirements are met in serving our diverse student population. This position will split time between our Whiteman Campus (K-4) and Gilpin Campus (5-8). The distribution of time between each campus will be at the discretion of the Special Education Director.
Essential Functions and Objectives
- Plans and implements classroom activities, assignments and/or materials for the purpose of supporting and reinforcing classroom objectives and meeting IEP goals.

Administers standardized assessments as they relate to Colorado state-approved assessments for the identification of IDEA.
- Facilitates initial evaluation, annual review, and triannual review meetings with families and stakeholders.
- Completes IDEA documentation in compliance with student timelines and district/state and federal requirements.
- Attends meetings and in-service presentations for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions.

Communicates with families and professional support personnel for the purpose of communicating progress or implementing IEP objectives.

Implements research based interventions for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts.

Monitors students' daily schedule and behavior plan for the purpose of maintaining a safe and positive learning environment.

Prepares the learning environment to allow the student to participate in classroom activities.

Supervises and escorts the student during any and all emergency drills or during actual emergencies for the purpose of providing a safe learning environment.
- Attends any problem solving/IEP meeting and provides input as to the student's progress for the purpose of maintaining a whole student approach to his/her education.

Collects data on the student's IEP goals for the purpose of maintaining accurate records and engaging in data based decision making.

Collaborate across departments and divisions to support ongoing community dialogue sessions regarding the achievement of equitable student outcomes and enriching school experiences among diverse student groups

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required, Masters degree preferred

Required: State of Colorado License as Special Education Generalist, or equivalent out-of-state endorsement eligible for transfer.

Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Ability to multitask and prioritize work as needed; be willing to manage and juggle multiple competing tasks and demands

Ability to demonstrate regular attendance and punctuality

Ability to maintain a professional demeanor in all situations and must be able to withhold confidential information

Ability to respond to changing situations in the workplace and exhibit flexibility

Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing and the use of proper grammar and punctuation to write routine reports and correspondence

Ability to operate standard office equipment including using pertinent job related software applications and preparing and maintaining accurate records
Full Time Annual Salary Range: $55,000 - $70,000 (Salary is based on experience and education)
