Family and Child Therapist POSITION SUMMARY: Provide outpatient mental health and substance misuse services to children ages 3-11 and their families.
Family and Child Therapist ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Provide intake and needs assessment for each individual and family.
- Provide family therapy in the office and in the home.
- Provide individual therapy in the office and in the home.
- Provide experiential group therapy to children and adolescents.
- Provide crisis management.
- Provide case management services to participants as needed or assigned.
- Develop treatment plans; monitor treatment progress and follow-up at disposition times.
- Participate in psychiatry and medication management meetings.
- Assist participants in accessing community support services and health care.
- Coordinate with client’s RAE, when appropriate, to ensure care.
- Discharge planning and making appropriate referrals to long-term care.
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical records consistent with BHA/OBH standards.
- Participate in team/department meetings, in-services, and supervisory sessions as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Family and Child Therapist EDUCATION: Master's Degree in social work or counseling. Current license as a LCSW/LPC and/or CAS/CAT/LAC in the State of Colorado preferred.
Family and Child Therapist EXPERIENCE: Minimum of three years’ experience in clinical work. Experience working with the substance abuse and mental health participants and/or individuals involved with the judicial system. Experience working with children under 8 years old or knowledge of child development.
Family and Child Therapist SKILLS: Knowledge of methods of psychotherapy. Knowledge of community resources. Ability to assess crisis situations and intervene appropriately. Familiarity with the DSM IV-V and diagnostic techniques. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work flexible and on-call hours which may be required.
MACHINES AND EQUIPMENT TO BE USED: Computers, calculators, fax machines, telephone and a variety of other office/clinical equipment.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL and MENTAL DEMANDS:
Requires sitting, standing, bending and reaching, ability to use office equipment.Ability to give, receive and analyze information, formulate treatment plans, prepare written materials and articulate goals and action plans. Must demonstrate cultural responsibility and be able to communicate effectively with them.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Behavioral Health Therapist will be working with the clinical team at our Family Preservation Center, our Delaware, and our Federal locations.
