GLO Resources is currently hiring for Combo Welder/Fitter that can weld stick welding to work in Laplace, LA at a barge repair facility. You will be working for a ship repair facility. Pay will be $23-$24/hr. DOE. Typical workdays are Monday – Friday 8-10/hr days with mostly weekend work available. Typical start time is 7am
Job duties include but are not limited to:
· Inspect welds for defects and recommend repairs or rework to ensure high quality workmanship
· Operate production equipment such as welders, gas metal arc welding machines (GMAW), submerged arc welding systems (SAW), electron beam welders, laser welders, and plasma arc welders
· Prepare materials for welding by cutting pieces to size and performing other preparatory tasks such as cleaning the surface of the material
· Maintaining and repairing welding equipment, including torches and helmets
· Reading blueprints and other drawings to determine how to carry out welding projects
· Following safety procedures while welding to protect themselves from burn injuries or exposure to hazardous materials
· Plan and execute welding projects according to specifications set forth by engineers and designers in the manufacturing industry
· Weld for barge repair
· Apply protective coatings to the welded surface to prevent corrosion or cracking due to environmental factors such as wind or rain
Duties & Responsibilities
· Read and interpret welding blueprints, drawings, and specifications
· Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments, using processes such as gas tungsten arc, gas metal arc, plasma arc, shielded metal arc, and flux cored arc welding
· Select and set up welding torches, power supplies, wire feeders, and other related equipment, according to welding specification
· Inspect completed welds to determine structural soundness and conformance to specifications, using x-ray and ultrasonic equipment as well as visual inspection
· Position and clamp workpieces together or assemble them in jigs, holding fixtures, guides, and templates, using measuring instruments and hand tools
· Repair broken or cracked parts and fill holes, using metal filler, pliers, hacksaw, and power drill
· Tack-weld or bolt component parts to hold them in proper alignment during welding
· Preheat workpieces, using torch, furnace, or induction heater
· Remove slag from weld joints, using chipping hammer and wire brush
· Monitor welding machines for correct parameters, maintaining a consistent arc length and manipulating speed and voltage to control penetration and bead size
· Maintain a clean and safe work area
· Keep equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs
Required Skills and Qualifications
· High school diploma or equivalent
· Welding certification from an accredited institution
· 2 plus years welding and fitting experience, preferably on barges
· Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and schematics
· Strong attention to detail
· Excellent physical stamina and strength
· Bilingual a plus
· Ability to pass a 3g/4g test
