Certified Nursing Assistant
Full-time, Part-time, PRN
12 Hour Shifts: 6am-6pm / 6pm-6am
8 hour shifts 6a-20,2p-10p,10p-6a
Position Overview
Responsible as a certified nursing assistant for providing routine daily nursing services to assigned residents in a manner that is caring, compassionate and customer-oriented and in accordance with laws, regulations and facility guidelines.
Basic Qualifications
Education & Certification:
High school diploma or equivalent; successfully completed a state-approved Certified Nursing Assistance program; must possess a current certification in good standing or be able to obtain certification within four months of employment, if allowable by the state; must have CPR certification.
Experience:
Minimum of six months experience in a long-term care or other geriatric care environment is preferred, but not required.
Essential Job Duties
- CNA provides quality nursing care to residents and communicates to each resident and family member to build positive relations.
- CNA routinely makes rounds and responsively provides proper resident care and service.
- CNA assesses residents for condition changes and reports to nurse supervisor.
- CNA answersresident call lights promptly and courteously.
- Delivers meals and performs feeding assistance to residents and provides hydration.
- Performs vital sign monitoring/charting and observes residents for changes in condition or behavior and reports nursing supervisors.
- Provides assistance to residents for showers or baths.
- Provides assistance with lifting, turning, moving, transporting or transferring residents.
- Monitors incontinent residents to ensure bed linens and clothing are clean and dry.
- Assists residents with toileting and bed pans and collects urine, stool and sputum samples as directed.
- Ensures good hygiene through oral care, hair care, shaving, etc.
- Changes bed linens and makes beds.
- Provides proper skin care and promptly reports observations of skin breakdown and pressure areas.
- Communicates changes and follows plan of care effectively by recording changes in charts.
- Adheres to facility admission, discharge and transfer policies and prepares resident rooms for arrival.
- Labels, organizes and stores resident’s personal belongings, clothing, etc.
- Provides support and assistance for dying residents and post-mortem care.
- Receives report from off-going shift or supervisor to better understand resident needs and changes.
- Promotes interdepartmental teamwork to meet resident needs.
- Promotes an environment of positive public relations by displaying a calm, caring, warm and friendly atmosphere in department and on each shift.
- Keeps residents’ water pitchers clean and filled with fresh was and within reach of the resident.
- Provides training to new CNAs, upon request.
- Ensures cleanliness of water pitchers and provides refills of fresh water as needed.
- Transfer residents to and from dining room, activities, therapy, etc.
- Works well with supervision, team members and other departments to properly care for each resident.
- Rotates residents on a two-hour schedule.
- Monitors dressings, bandages, etc. and changes, as directed.
- Arrives to work as scheduled and makes rounds with previous shift.
- As instructed and appropriate, collects specimens (urine, stools, etc.).
