The position of Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs at UCLA School of Law plays a crucial role in shaping and managing the curriculum for our students. The Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs will work closely and in collaboration with the Vice Dean for Curricular and Academic Affairs and the Director of Curricular Administration to design and manage the Law School Curriculum. Other key responsibilities include the management and oversight of course scheduling; developing and implementing academic policies and procedures relevant to course offerings for new and existing academic programs and centers; identifying and implementing technology and tools to streamline the curriculum and course scheduling process and other operations of the Records Office; ensuring compliance with UC policies and ABA accreditation requirements; collecting and analyzing data related to curriculum effectiveness and scheduling efficiency; and contributing to the strategic planning process for the academic affairs of the law school. As a member of the UCLA School of Law leadership team, this position plays a pivotal role in maintaining the school's academic excellence and operational efficiency and providing oversight of the Records Office and its staff. Management responsibilities will include but are not limited to, providing guidance and support to team members, fostering a collaborative and respectful work environment, developing a cross-functional team aimed at business continuity, and ensuring the team has professional development opportunities. The incumbent will also be responsible for promoting effective communication among staff, faculty, students, and administration to enhance the overall academic experience for students.

Qualifications

7-10 years Professional experience with increasing levels of responsibility. (Required)
- Senior level management experience and skill in program review and development, institutional assessment processes, and inter-unit coordination (Required)
- Demonstrated experience supervising Staff, including delegating responsibility, staff skill assessment, training, and mentoring. (Required)
- Experience in constructing a yearly curriculum balancing needs of faculty, students, and academic programs. (Required)
- Experience using Microsoft suit products including Window, Word, Excel, Access, etc. (Required)
- Advanced skill in selecting and employing leadership and communication styles which are appropriate to the people involved, the situation, and intended results. (Required)
- Detailed knowledge of the overall law school academic cycle, with a clear understanding of curriculum, financial aid, and general policies and procedures. (Required)
- Skill in employing fundamental counseling techniques with sensitivity. (Required)
- Skill in listening perceptively and conveying understanding, establishing rapport, gaining trust, motivating others, and stimulating people to effective action. (Required)
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective, collaborative relationships and enlist support of all levels of faculty, staff, students, campus administrators and community constituencies, in order to mobilize a team effort to accomplish program goals. (Required)
