JOB DESCRIPTION: Class A Driver

Overview:
Class A Drivers are integral to the customer service model of Trench Shoring Company. Our drivers do more than just deliver products; they are skilled operators, with extensive crane operation training, and product knowledge. They deliver shoring equipment in some of the most technically difficult and challenging environments while providing top-notch customer service that is representative of the Trench Shoring culture of safety and service.
A Class A Driver I is primarily responsible for driving a tractor-trailer combination truck with a capacity of at least 80,000 pounds Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW). The driver is required to become Crane Certified within 6 months of hire. Drivers work both on the road and in the yard, helping to prepare equipment for rental orders. To maintain safety standards, drivers work as part of a team and must possess a team-oriented mindset to fulfill their role successfully.
Responsibilities:
- Safely drive from branch location to job sites and back. Will be partnered with a branch colleague to drive as a team and ensure required safety standards. Kindly and courteously interact with all customers and co-workers.
- Load and unload equipment on job sites and at branch location. Utilize rigging techniques and crane to safely manipulate equipment.
- Perform pre-trip safety inspections every morning to ensure that their assigned tractor-trailer meets all safety requirements.

Read, understand, and accurate complete driver’s log, to make sure customer paperwork is signed and accounted for, and that the equipment that is delivered or retrieved is correct.
- When not driving, prepare equipment for rent. Participate in tasks such as building and testing shoring equipment, cleaning and painting plates, keeping the overall branch and yard clean and safe (this is not an exhaustive list).
- Maintain constant communication with branch to provide updates on route and delivery status. Be willing to take specific direction regarding the best route, completing tasks efficiently, and completing tasks without safety violations.

Utilizes Kaizala to take pictures of equipment upon delivery and pick-up. Notate any damages on paperwork, and communicate that to the branch.
- Frequently participate in on-line and in-person training which may include sitting at a desk or in a classroom for up to 8 hours to develop deep knowledge of core products and company culture.
- All other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Attain NCCCO certification for Articulating Boom Crane within 6 months of hire.
- Ability to perform basic math functions and understand concepts such as dimensions and weights limits.

Ability to follow verbal and written directions.

Must follow policies and procedures to ensure the job is done safely and properly.

Local travel only - drivers will be home most every night.

Be able to work a minimum of 50 hours per work week. Willingness to be flexible in terms of schedule and taking on-going deliveries without going over the hours of service requirements.
- This is a non-exempt role, and all applicable Federal and State laws that mandate non-exempt employees receive overtime pay will be followed.
Qualifications:
- Regular, on-time and reliable work-site attendance.
- Minimum high-school diploma or equivalent with at least six-months of related experience as a Class A driver.
- Must possess a valid and clean commercial Class A Driver's License issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicles which must be eligible to be added to the Trench Shoring Company insurance policy.
- Crane certification preferred, however if candidate is not certified at the time of hire, company will train for crane-certified operations.

Demonstrated ability to anticipate and solve practical problems.
- Ability to type, send/receive e-mails, and use computers or online rental software. Previous experience with online training tools is preferred.
Physical Demands and Work Environment. Employee must be able to:
- Continually walk, and stand wearing PPE in variable weather conditions (cold and hot, dry and wet).
- Continually sit while performing duties.
- Continually utilize hand and finger dexterity

Continually work near moving mechanical parts.
- Occasionally work in high, precarious places.
- Continually be exposed to outside weather conditions.
- Perform all duties of this job while working in an environment where the noise level is usually at a moderate level.
- Routinely lift 70 pounds, but within the constraints that lifting anything 50 lbs and above requires assistance.
- Have the specific vision abilities required by this job including: Close vision; Distance vision; Color vision; Peripheral vision; Depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
