JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the Purchasing Manager, the Buyer is responsible for purchasing goods, materials, and services to ensure that the company’s operational needs are met, with regards to price, quality and delivery and to ensure continuity of supply in accordance with established EDI standards, policies and procedures.
RESPONSIBILITIES
· Execute and manage the buying process for a given set of goods in line with specified cost, quality and delivery targets.
· Develop and maintain a strong foundation of function skills and knowledge of relevant purchasing and sourcing concepts. This may include attending training sessions, seminars, trade shows, product exhibitions, and conferences to maintain understanding of position and products.
· Ensure continuous supply of required goods and materials and communicate supply problems which may pose a risk or impact on business operations.
· Oversee and maintain adequate inventory, working with the Inventory Manager and Scheduling Coordinator.
· Manage problems and schedule changes and ensure changes are reflected within the ERP systems.
· Build, maintain and manage supplier relationships.
· Negotiate contracts, improved prices and terms of business with suppliers and review opportunities to make business savings utilizing negotiation and procurement best practice tools and methods
· Assess financial risks of purchases and supply continuity.
· Prepare purchase orders in line with organizational targets and requirements.
· Visit suppliers to understand capabilities and capacity.
· Actively participate in supplier performance reviews.
· Undertake research on and evaluate existing and new suppliers.
· Contact suppliers to resolve price, quality, delivery, or invoice issues.
· Perform other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated abilities with Microsoft Office products, primarily Excel Word, and Outlook.
- Previous experience with a manufacturing enterprise system. Position will be expected to gain proficiency with EDI’s Epicor system.
- Efficient typing/data entry skills, with an emphasis on accuracy and legal aspects of purchasing.
- Ability to compile information and make decisions.
- Ability to work independently and under pressure.
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
- High School diploma/GED required.
- Familiarity with best purchasing practices, market research and data analysis.
- Exposure to sourcing products internationally.
- Minimum of one year business experience in supplier management, procurement, purchasing or related field.
- Bachelor’s degree in business, Economics, or related field preferred.
Hours for the position are Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm.
