Position Summary
A Cardiac Stress Technician, under the direct supervision of site physician, performs various professional and administrative duties related to nuclear medicine stress testing including but not limited to patient preparation, administration of exercise and pharmacological stress tests, and application of Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) measures to patients when directed. Activities not performed at the physician site are supervised by the Office Manager.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Reading and analyzing EKG's while stress testing patient.
- Preparation of patient for stress testing procedure, including patient interviews, obtaining medical history, obtaining patient consent and signatures, and conducting patient teaching related to nuclear imaging procedure including risks and complications.
- Assess patient’s blood pressure, pulse, respirations, lung sounds, and establish Peripheral Intravenous (IV) access.
- Set up and monitor patient through 12 lead EKG stress testing including application of 12 lead EKG monitor pads and application leads. EKG Rhythm identification and interpretation.
- Under the direct supervision of the site physician, application of ACLS algorithms if patients experience heart problems or cardiac arrest during procedure including administration of resuscitation pharmacological agents, oropharyngeal and nasopharyngeal airway placement and suctioning.
- Completion of daily paperwork at customer site including obtaining physician signature(s), photocopying, and faxing.
- Complying with established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety and environmental standards.
- Enhancing professional growth and development through participation in continuing education courses, educational programs, and maintaining of required licenses and certifications.
- Any other duties assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Required to start IV’s, place EKG leads and interpret EKG rhythms.
- Successful completion of an American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) and CPR courses.
- BLS: 1 year (Preferred)
- EKG: 1 year (Preferred)
- IV: 1 year (Required)
- License/Certification: ACLS Certification (REQUIRED)
- CCT or CST certification (REQUIRED)
Physical Demands
- Ability to stand and walk for limited periods of time.

- Ability to occasionally reach, bend, stoop and lift up to 30 lbs. *
