DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR
JOB SUMMARY:
As the Development Director at PHP, you'll be at the forefront of expanding and enhancing our resource development initiatives. Your primary objective is to secure vital funds necessary for delivering high-quality service programs while also pioneering new ones, thereby reducing our reliance on public agency funds. Working in close collaboration with PHP’s Chief Development Officer, you'll lead fundraising efforts and amplify public awareness of our mission. Your leadership will exemplify professionalism, compassion, and an unwavering dedication to advancing PHP's cause. Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, you'll also serve as a vital member of PHP's executive leadership team.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategy, Leadership and Planning: Partner with the Chief Development Officer to craft an ambitious yet achievable annual fundraising strategy. Develop a comprehensive fundraising plan delineating metrics and responsibilities for the Executive Director, Board, staff, and each member of the development team. Contribute as a key member of the Executive Management team.
Individual Donor Cultivation and Communications: Oversee a portfolio of individual donors, implementing tailored communication and cultivation plans for each segment. Create immersive opportunities for donors to connect with PHP's mission. Collaborate with the Marketing Manager to craft all donor communications, including annual campaign materials, social media content, and fundraising collateral.
Corporate, Foundation Donors and Special Events: Maintain relationships with local corporate communities to secure opportunities for PHP to partner, receive grants and recruit high-value volunteers. Manage the grants process for current and new grantors including research, proposal writing (or supervision of grant writer), and maintaining positive ongoing relationships with grantors. Determine strategic direction of the gala fundraising event, ensuring flawless execution supported by volunteers and staff or contract event planner.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
1. A passion for families with children with special needs.
2. Minimum of 5 years working in nonprofit development or corporate sales, with increasing levels of responsibility and proven track record of success.
3. Compelling and inspirational communication skills: interpersonal, oral and written.
4. Ability to build relationships and engage with people from a wide variety of backgrounds.
5. Demonstrated cultural competency in serving low income, underserved areas in Santa Clara County.
6. Demonstrated success in securing four and five figure gifts through acquiring, developing and retaining donor or client relationships resulting in significant support for an organization.
7. Ability to think strategically about special events and their PR and fundraising value.
8. Represent PHP at high profile events and develop/maintain relationships with other community organizations.
9. Perform duties and attend meetings in person. Required to be on camera for meetings which may be recorded.
10. Competent at using Microsoft Office, Google Suite and fundraising database products; Salesforce experience a plus.
11. Perform other duties as required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This job requires extended periods of sitting or standing at a desk while working on a computer. Candidates should be able to use a computer, keyboard, mouse, and other office equipment comfortably and efficiently. Visual Requirements: This position requires the candidate to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading, review of marketing materials and website. Occasional Mobility: While the job is primarily sedentary, candidates should be capable of occasional movement within the office environment for access to others, supplies or equipment. Verbal Communication: This position requires frequent communication, both in person and over the phone or via video conferencing. Requires the ability to clearly and effectively communicate information and ideas so others will understand.
Travel: Must be able to travel as needed.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
This is not a 100% remote position; in-person interaction with the PHP team, community agencies, and/or attendance at in-person trainings and community events is required. Required to be on camera for meetings which may be recorded. Maintaining a meaningfully significant in-office presence at PHP’s main office in San Jose will be expected and work from home hours will be determined by the supervisor based on organizational needs. Ability to work some weekends and evenings is required. Full time role. Salary range is $94,000-$110,000/year.
