SOUTH KINGSTOWN SCHOOL DEPARTMENT Position: Director of Student ServicesGeneral Duties: The Director of Student Services is responsible for all aspects of the special education department of the South Kingstown School Department, including but not limited to: referral, identification, IEP development and service provision for students with disabilities between the ages of 3-22; development and delivery of a continuum of service options, compliance with all state and federal laws and reporting requirements pertaining to students with disabilities; supervision and coordination of all special education staff including special education teachers and related service personnel. Reports to: Superintendent Qualifications: Responsibilities RI Certification as Administrator of Special Education Masters Degree in Education or higher in administration and graduate course work in special education or related fields Successful experience in education, including experience in educational Administration/Special Education Demonstrated ability to perform the responsibilities below as evidenced by course work, professional experience and the interview process 1.Establish and maintain a continuum of services for students with disabilities. 2.Supervise and coordinate delivery of instruction for students with disabilities. 3.Communicates effectively with administration, teachers, staff, parents and the general public about the mission and goals of the PPS Department.
4.Compliance with all local, state, and federal laws and regulations governing the education of students with disabilities ages 3-22. 5.Prepare required district, state, and federal plans and reports. 6. Oversee Federal and State grants related to Special Education Services; Ex.
IDEA7.Coordinate flexible special education programs with the building principals. 8.Meet with principals and teachers to ensure constructive communication and mutual support. 9.Annually evaluates the robustness and specific impact of the special education program. 10.Supervise and coordinate activities of special education teacher and related service providers.
11.Participates in the evaluation of special education teachers and related service providers. Director of Pupil Personnel Services Page Two Responsibilities (Continued): 12.Plan and implement meaningful staff meetings and staff development sessions for Pupil Personnel Staff and encourage professional initiative and awareness of current research. 13.Develops, maintains, and administers budget related to special education, including state and federal programs. 14.Assign referrals to the appropriate personnel and follow up on activities regarding assigned cases.
15.Promotes and supports a philosophy of inclusion and the right to be educated in the least restrictive environment. 16.Establish effective liaison with agencies within the community and the state that provide specialized services to students and parents. 17.Supports the Special Education Local Advisory Committee and attends meetings. 18.Represents the school system at professional meetings and conferences as needed.
19.Participate in Central Office Administrative Council meetings as needed. 20.Be familiar and remain current with research in the field of education with particular attention to special education. 21.Perform all other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools or designee.
