Detroit Pump & Mfg. (www.detroitpump.com), a full-service distributor and service center of process pumps and fluid handling equipment is conducting a search for an Applications Engineer to join our team.
The Applications Engineer will work with end users, engineering firms, contractors, as well as the company’s own inside customer service team, outside sales representatives, engineering team, and systems build department. The role is responsible for selecting components, performing calculations to support system designs, and preparing detailed schematics, system layouts, bills of material and quotes.
Applicants must have the mechanical understanding to envision and design a pump system, understand, and adhere to engineered specifications, select pumps and accessories, price the systems, and prepare professional proposals.
Responsibilities
- Mechanical design of industrial pump assemblies.
- Provide support for customer inquiries regarding product applications.
- Conduct contract review to verify scope of supply including performance guarantees, documentation, calculations, and testing.
- Support incoming complex orders to ensure timely, accurate order management in line with customer service.
- Support in-house manufacturing of pump systems. Provide quick solutions to design-related concerns. Capture any changes using engineering change control processes.
- Attend training courses, seminars, workshops, etc. as required.
- Attend new pump start-up at customer sites when required.
- Process requests for price, delivery, order status, order expedites and technical product assistance.
- Support Customer order changes (lead time, shipping conditions, quantity, postponements, rejection, cancellation) and interaction with External Sales, Finance and the Supply Chain.
- Proactively work with customers or internal stakeholders to obtain detailed information to provide the best solutions for customer needs.
- Build rapport with customers, vendors, and outside sales personnel.
- Enhance product and technical knowledge by studying new product information and participating in training and educational opportunities.
Background & Experience
- Minimum 3 years experience as an engineer.
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, or Electrical).
- Proficiency in MS Office applications.
- Proficiency with Solidworks or similar 3D modeling CAD software.
- Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software for engineering-related function would be a plus.
- Experience with electrical wiring and industrial controls would be a plus.
- Good communication and networking skills together with the ability to build strong and trusting relationships with both Internal and External Stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
- Customer driven with a positive, professional, customer first attitude.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Aptitude to learn about technical products and provide technical support to customers.
