Boiler operators to manage and operate 79 boilers scattered around the airport complexes. There are a couple large boilers (41-33 million BTU) in one building, but they operate at 80 psi and around 270F.
Many small/mid-size package boilers (mostly Cleaver Brooks) at all the other buildings.
They also have some very small boilers (glorified water heaters). They only have 1 higher pressure boiler (a couple hundred psi.) in one testing facility.
All the others are 15-80 psi. The boilers mostly run on natural gas or electricity. Some are fit to run on diesel, if needed.
Most of the boilers are fire tube, but there are some water tube.
The control systems are all older style digital controls (push button, dial adjustments, some small digital readouts), but they are not connected to an HMI or a central control room.
They are all almost exclusively environmental boilers (heat, humidity). The only exception is the high-pressure boiler in the one testing facility.
The larger boilers have a dedicated crew in the building that does hourly rounds to monitor and make adjustments.
All the other boilers are monitored on a 4-hour rotation. These operators drive to each facility to make checks, and document operation and make adjustments. The buildings are not close to each other (furthest one is 2.8 miles away), so a vehicle will be required.
There is also a lot of walking doing the rounds at the facilities. The operators will also monitor and operate some air compressors (some are vintage 1950’s machines) The few largest are 2000-3000 cfm. There are many smaller compressors. The operators also do water testing and operate water softeners. There is also a de-aerating system they operate for the high pressure boiler.
