Your primary responsibility as a Resident Aide will be to provide compassionate and specialized care to individuals with cognitive impairments, particularly those with dementia or mental health-related concerns.
Position Summary:
This position requires a unique skill set that combines specialized training and experience in providing care to clients dealing with prior drug abuse, and mental health care with specialized knowledge in memory care strategies.* The ideal candidate will be a certified HCA or NAC with a passion for delivering personalized care to enhance the quality of life for our residents. One year or more previous experience is mandatory. Please do not apply if you have no previous experience.*
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Care:
- Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting.
- Provide companionship and engage residents in meaningful activities to stimulate cognitive function.
- Monitor and address changes in residents' behavior, promptly reporting concerns to the appropriate supervisor or healthcare professional.
Behavior Management:
- Implement behavioral interventions to address challenging behaviors associated with dementia, such as aggression, and agitation.
- Utilize therapeutic communication techniques to de-escalate and manage challenging situations.
Safety and Environment:
- Ensure the physical environment is conducive to the safety and comfort of residents with mental impairments.
- Implement and adhere to safety protocols, including fall prevention measures and emergency procedures.
- Regularly assess the living environment for potential hazards and address them promptly.
- Maintain a clean and healthy environment.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date resident records, including behavioral observations, care provided, and any changes in condition.
- Report incidents, changes in behavior, and other relevant information to supervisors and healthcare professionals.
Professional Development:
- Stay informed about advancements in dementia care, behavioral management techniques, and other relevant areas through ongoing training and professional development.
Working Conditions:
- The position may involve standing for long periods, lifting, and assisting residents with daily ongoing tasks.
- Flexible hours, including days, evenings, nights and weekends, may be required.
- Exposure to emotional and challenging situations is inherent in the role.
- A Resident Aide is a Caregiver who plays a vital role in enhancing the lives of individuals with cognitive impairments by providing compassionate and specialized care that focuses on their unique needs and challenges.
Resident Aides will preferably have completed an HCA or CNA Certification with one-year experience. Non-certified Resident Aides will be considered with at least one year of previous caregiving experience, specifically with memory care or behavioral health; however, they must have the ability to obtain an HCA or CNA Certification.
