Patton State Hospital Human Resources Department is accepting applications for at least one (1) permanent full-time appointment to the Public Health Nurse II classification in Medical Services. This position is pending budget approval and pending CalHR approval for safety retirement.
Under the matrix system at Patton State Hospital, A Public Health Nurse (PHN-II) may receive assignments, direction, and evaluation by the Public Health Officer and Administrative law from the Supervising Registered Nurse; Identifies all patients and employees having signs of infection, collates infection information from a wide variety of sources, and records the information on an infection control card and the database of the computer; attends and actively participates as a member of the Infection Control Committee; and participates in the planning and curriculum development of orientation and in-service training programs relating to HIV/AIDS, hepatitis B and C, Universal (Standard) Precautions, Bloodborne Pathogens Standard and exposure plan, Tuberculosis standards, and guidelines and Exposure Control Plan, and other infection control topics.
The Public Health Nurse II must have the ability to: Exercise independent judgment and plan, organize, and carry out community public health nursing activities in a local area or an institution; work effectively with individuals or families to assist them in a satisfactory solution to health problems; provide leadership in community health programs; secure the cooperation of and work effectively with individuals and agencies; analyze situations accurately and take effective action; speak and write effectively.
Possession of a valid RN license and a Public Health Nurse Certificate in the State of California are required.
The position may be assigned flex-time status at the discretion of the Public Health Officer and the Chief Physician and Surgeon if this is to the benefit of the hospital. Attendance at conferences for training or policy issues may be an assigned duty, requiring travel, weekend, or late hours. The employee must work any schedule in various settings and may be required to work overtime as determined by the hospital's operational needs.
Possession of a valid license as a registered nurse and a certificate as a public health nurse in the State of California, as well as completion of a university or collegiate program of study approved for public health nursing, are required.
The position(s) require(s) a Drug Screening be passed prior to being hired.
