Math Education Consultant/Coach Job Description
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree and at least 10+ years of experience in teaching math in elementary or secondary school, certified to teach math in NYS, AND must have taught students with disabilities and know how to teach them math
- At least +5 years coaching teachers and conducting professional development. We welcome former and retired education leaders to apply.
- Must be able to travel to the Bronx or Brooklyn.
- Must be familiar with Go Math, enVisions, Illustrative Math, and other math curriculum used in NYC and must know evidence-based practices in math
- Must believe in antiracist education practices and the social constructivist perspective on disability.
- Experience working with low income, Black and Brown schools.
- Excellent presentation, facilitation, interpersonal, and communication skills
- Strong working knowledge of the Next Generation (Common Core) Standards for Mathematics.
- Strong foundation on how to work with adult learners, challenging teachers, and to change adult mindsets to be more optimistic and teach in an asset-based approach.
- A high level of comfort discussing and applying data with teachers and education leaders.
- Excellent Zoom, computer and internet skills including knowledge of Office programs (Outlook, Word, PPT, etc.)
- Can type at least 50 words per minute
- Ability to work independently and as part of a co-teaching presentation team.
Responsibilities:
- Working closely with the founder of the company and other consultants/coaches and communicating with teachers and leaders.
- Schedule is highly dependent on customer demand - professional development workshops are scheduled with schools during or after school hours. Must be able to work on Mondays from 2-4:30.
- Facilitate scripted workshops.
- Opportunities to design and co-facilitate math workshops or professional development for schools.
- Observe and coach teachers and provide tailored on-site support to teachers, coaches, and leaders from 4-10 days a month. Therefore, the consultant/coach must have a flexible schedule.
- The consultant may cover a territory of schools within 1 hour of NYC and Long Island. It is advisable for the coach to have a car. Most of our work is in Brooklyn and the Bronx.
- Engage in internal cycle of professional improvement and development (including reading education research, being observed, receiving feedback, and being coached)
- Submit handwritten and detailed typed written coaching notes to teachers and leadership staff in a timely manner.

- Hours: Contracted consultants are paid a set workshop and daily rate and will be paid for meetings and prep time.
- Compensation: We offer a competitive salary, ranging from $125-$150/hour for consultant/coaching services and adjusted rates for meetings and prep time.
