Barista
We are looking for an outgoing and upbeat Barista to prepare and serve hot and cold beverages, including various types of coffee and tea. Food handling and preparation is also required as we do a large volume of food. Barista responsibilities include educating customers on our drinks menu, making recommendations based on their preferences, up-selling special items and taking orders.
CURRENT shifts likely: Saturday & Sunday open or close (between 6am-5pm), 2 weekday morning (6:30am-11:30am) or close (11am-5:30pm) MUST BE AVAILABLE WEEKENDS with rotating 2 weekend days off per month
To be successful in this role, you should have customer service skills, knowledge of how brewing equipment operates, ability to work independently and with others in a busy environment. You should be able to work various shifts and be dependable. You must be trustworthy, hard working, and flexible to meet the demands of a small business. Professionalism and a friendly demeanor is a must.
We are looking for a long term employee to compliment our team. We are understanding of college schedules and allow flexibility for set quarterly/semester schedules.
Note: this position’s compensation includes hourly and tips. Tips are earned and paid each shift. Ultimately, you’ll ensure an excellent drinking experience for our guests and increase sales and volume for the stand.
Responsibilities
- Greet customers as they arrive
- Friendly, upbeat, social
- Memorize customer drinks and answer their questions regarding ingredients
- Take orders while paying attention to details (e.g. preferences of coffee blend, dairy and sugar ratios)
- Prepare beverages following recipes
- Serve beverages and prepared food, like cookies, pastries and muffins, bagel sandwiches
- Receive and process payments (cash and credit cards)
- Keep the bar area clean
- Maintain stock of cups, milks, food, etc.
- Check if brewing equipment operates properly and report any maintenance needs
- Comply with health and safety regulations
- Communicate customer feedback to manager/owner and recommend new menu items
- Complete stocking and cleaning duties each shift
- Work well unsupervised maintaining standards and expectations.
- Work well with others in a TEAM environment using direct conflict management skills and clear communication.
Skills
- Previous work experience as a Barista
- Hands-on experience with brewing equipment
- Knowledge of sanitation regulations
- Flexibility to work various shifts
- Basic math skills
- Ability to gauge customers’ preferences
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to upsell and manage high volume flow
- Calm under pressure and ability to manage multiple orders with Accuracy
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $16.28 - $22.30 per hour
Expected hours: 15 – 25 per week
