Organization Description
Sunshine Enterprises (SE) is a 501© 3 nonprofit based in Chicago, IL. SE empowers high potential entrepreneurs living in Chicago's under-resourced neighborhoods to grow their communities. SE provides ongoing dynamic business training and mentoring for Black and Latino entrepreneurs in Woodlawn, Englewood, West Evanston, Rogers Park, North Lawndale, and other neighborhoods across the south and west sides of Chicago. SE also has developed specialty hubs focused on the property developers, construction trades, arts, and tech industries, as well as Spanish language programming.
SE works toward its objective through three program strategies: The Community Business Academy (CBA), Business Acceleration Services (BAS), and Credit to Capital (C2C). The CBA is a 12-session, 36-hour course in business planning and management, taught by experienced instructors, delivering hands-on training in the basic concepts, tools, and skills needed to plan for and run a successful business. SE has graduated over 1600 CBA participants and now graduates over 200 per year. Graduates of the CBA receive year-round BAS from business consultants with experience owning and operating small businesses and access to the C2C program which equips and prepares entrepreneurs to acquire the funding needed to improve sustainability and scale.
Position Summary
Under the direction of the Director of Data and Program Evaluation, the Program Evaluation Manager role leads the organization’s program evaluation, outcome measurement, and reporting. The role creates and implements evaluation plans. It involves working closely with staff to coordinate and manage the collection, analysis, and reporting of data used for outcome measurement, program activity tracking, and grants reporting. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in program evaluation, data analysis, and reporting, with a passion for driving positive outcomes in low-income communities.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Developing and overseeing implementation of different evaluation plans, ensuring that programs and organizational activities further the strategic goals & objectives of SE
- Measuring and tracking effectiveness of programs and initiatives within SE
- Including supporting the development, and leading on-going use, of tracking tools across SE’s three main program areas (CBA, BAS, C2C)
- Using data to identify areas of improvement.
- Helping design and track organizational strategic KPIs.
- Collecting, compiling, validating, and analyzing data along with creating data visualizations to present findings
- Leading annual survey and other data capturing initiatives
- Providing data support and ad hoc data requests for other departments, including Development, Programs, etc.
- Utilizing Salesforce CRM to create and run reports and dashboards to track program progress and measure impact.
- Offering dedicated support to the Community Business Academy (CBA) team before, during and after CBA semesters
- Leading data collection and reporting for government contracts.
- Managing data analyst (part-time staff or intern)
- Including overseeing interviews with different departments to assess needs.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Strong data analysis, reporting, and visualization skills
- Strong process-oriented thinking, problem solving, and organizational skills as well as attention to detail.
- Strong project management skills and ability to coordinate information across multiple colleagues and departments.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of products with advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Proficiency in program evaluation methodologies, data collection techniques, and analysis tools
- Experience evaluating programs focused on entrepreneurship, economic development, or community empowerment
- Proven track-record of using evaluation results to drive program improvements and inform strategic decisions.
- Ability to manage high level projects and on-going tasks.
- Ability to take initiative and ask thoughtful questions.
- Ability to work well in a dynamic environment, meet deadlines, and work well during times of increased evaluation needs.
- Ability to identify new ways to improve programs based on evaluations.
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Proficient in Google Workspace and suite of products
- Strong desire to help entrepreneurs that can be representative of marginalized, low to moderate income, and at-risk populations become economically self-sufficient.
Minimum Education and Experience
- 3-5 years related experience in a similar position, preferably with a nonprofit and/or business development organization
- Experience in program evaluation or academic coursework in program evaluation is required with non-profit focus preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree is required, Master’s degree preferred
- Experience using Salesforce or another Customer Relationship Management or database management tool is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in designing and implementing program evaluation approaches, including both qualitative and quantitative methods.
- Proven track-record of conducting data analysis.
- Experience with survey design and administration
- Prior experience working with culturally diverse populations and understanding the unique challenges faced by low-income communities, preferable.
- Project Management experience required.
- Proven experience in managing projects, including planning, executing, monitoring, and closing projects.
- PMP or similar certification is a plus.
- Reliable and predictable attendance required.**
- Availability to work 40 hours per week required.
** This is a hybrid position requiring both remote and some in-person attendance. Candidates must be based within a commutable distance to our main office in Chicago, IL to ensure availability for in-person meetings and collaboration.
