Fitter (Level B)
Fitters are responsible for assembling various types and sizes of steel to be welded according to blueprints.
General Expectations and Responsibilities
- Follow ADF safety procedures and practices.
- Read and understand semi-complex fabrication blueprints.
- Safely and efficiently operate hand and power tools.
- Identify all important symbols and dimensions on blueprints.
- Proficient in laying out parts, holes, copes, and bevels.
- Fit semi-complex assemblies with little to no errors.
- Proficient workflow management skills (planning for self and 2-3 others).
- Weld in the flat (1G), horizontal (2G), and vertical (3G) positions.
- Understands heat distortion and prevention.
- Understands types of welding discontinuities, prevention, and repair.
- Proficient written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Proficient in oxyfuel and plasma cutting processes.
- Ability to operate under strict deadlines and possess leadership abilities.
- General understanding of heat cambering.
Education, Training, or Work Experience
- High School Diploma or High School Equivalency.
- Completion of welding program and a minimum of 4,000 hours of relevant experience from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved OR a minimum of 8,000 hours of relevant experience.
- Industry certifications from AWS or CWB preferred.
- Proficient with Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Flux Core Arc Welding (FCAW), and/or Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW).
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to stand/walk for 10 hours at a time.
- Ability to bend, squat, kneel for varying lengths of time.
- Ability to fully articulate shoulder, elbow, hand, and wrist.
- Must be able to grasp and safely operate hand and power tools.
- Must be able to occasionally push, pull, lift, pull, or carry up to 75lbs.
- Must be able to work in various conditions (loud, hot, dusty, cold, etc.).
- Must be able to occasionally ascend/descend on ladder.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20.02 - $26.35 per hour
