TITLE: Substitute School Nurse - Countywide
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
JOB GOAL: To assist in providing the maximum possible educational opportunity for all students by minimizing absence due to illness and creation of a climate of health and well-being in Ohio County Schools
QUALIFICATIONS:
- RN with current WV License (Eligibility for Substitute School Nurse Permit) required
- Prior public school experience with medically fragile and students needing specialized medical procedures/accommodations
- Experience with computerized medical records
- Knowledge of confidentiality requirements for school and medical records
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
- Provide specialized health care services to students as needed and train teachers and service personnel in specialized techniques (i.e., catheterization, suctioning, etc.)
- Conduct mandatory school programs of immunization, physical examinations, vision and hearing screening
- Assist principals and teachers when a child becomes ill at school
- Administer first aid
- Supervise LPN/Supervisory Aide, when appropriate
- Make recommendations to the schools, relative to the health needs of individual students
- Maintain up-to-date cumulative health records of all students
- Implement policy on exclusion or readmission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases
- Follow an established schedule
- Keep the principals informed of current schedule, and perform duties as assigned
- Maintain positive work habits and confidentiality at all times
- Perform duties efficiently and productively
- Maintain and/or upgrade skills
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, or Administrator.
