We are looking for a Lead Algae Production Specialist to work closely with the Algae Team and other departments within the organization to provide key support to achieve the company’s long-term vision of achieving results through rebuilding soil. The ideal candidate must be self-motivated, able to work independently, creative, focused and enjoy working for a mission driven organization.
This role will report directly to our Algae Production& Development Manager.
This full-time, in-office position is located in Phoenix, AZ.
Responsibilities
· Coordinate culturing and mailing schedule based on needs from operations department, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of algae cultures.
· Conduct regular team meetings to discuss progress, address challenges, and set priorities.
· Conduct regular 1:1s with direct reports, fostering a collaborative and positive work environment, promoting continuous improvement and professional development for them.
· Maintain axenic cultures, prepare culture media, stock solutions, agar plates, calibration solutions
· Analyze field samples for system performance and health and summarize findings for other departments.
· Meet with lab manager to provide status updates
· Oversee the training and auditing of production specialists, ensuring they are well-versed in standard operating procedures and production methodologies.
· Troubleshoot equipment and process problems. Assist in preventative maintenance of laboratory equipment
· Respond to verbal and email inquiries, attend and report out at project meetings
· Maintain detailed QA/QC documents and laboratory notebooks.
· Write and update Standard Operating Procedures for laboratory and production tasks.
· Monitor laboratory chemical and consumable inventory, assist with purchases as needed
· Assist in implementing project safety and quality assurance programs
· Design and execute experiments to further optimize production and product quality, ensure the collection and documentation of study data/results are accurate and up to date.
· Travel to field sites if required
Skills & Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in: Phycology, Microbiology, Biology, Chemistry, Biotechnology, or related field.
· Preferred: experience with having 1 or more direct reports
· Capable of leading a team and working with interdisciplinary teams to develop and execute business goals
· Capable of prioritizing tasks to meet goals and timelines
· Self-motivated to update job knowledge by reading technical publications and have good communication skills
· Expert in BSL-2 Aseptic Technique for working in a Laminar Flow Hood & Biosafety Cabinet
· Experienced in brightfield and phase microscopy
· Trained in the operation and cleaning of large R&D and production reactors
· Accurately collect and document samples and data
· Data entry from source documents to electronic formats
· Maintain equipment and document required calibration
· Perform quality control assays as directed
