The Department of Healthcare and Family Services, Bureau of Claims Processing is seeking to hire an energetic individual for a Clerical Trainee position. This position will receive on the job training to gain experience in performing a variety of clerical duties as a participant in the Disabled Worker Trainee Program in the IES Mail Control unit. The candidate will learn the process of reviewing and sorting mail from outside entities such as clients and/or entities within the Department. Additionally, this position will receive training learning the process of preparing mail for numbering and scanning in accordance with established methods. The ideal candidate will be trainable, motivated and possess a positive work ethic.

Under immediate supervision, for a period of not less than six months with trainee participation from at least 20 hours per week up to a full-time equivalency work schedules during the training period, receives on-the-job training as a participate in the Disabled Workers Trainee Program to gain experience performing a variety of clerical duties

Receives on-the-job training learning the process of preparing mail for numbering and scanning in accordance with established methods

Receives direction to learn the process of preparing mail that is returned as undeliverable

Assists other staff in the operations of the mail cutting machine used by the Department by sorting envelops by size, taping envelopes to run through the machine, removing the cut envelops and packing in trays

Follows oral or written instruction, gaining experience and knowledge in and applying evolving automated office equipment and technology to the tasks preformed

Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above

Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of high school

Requires no previous experience
- DISABLED WORKERS TRAINING PROGRAM OPTION:
Some positions allocated to this class are designated as part of the Disabled Workers Training Program (DWTP). The Clerical Trainee class has been identified as subject to provisions of the Personnel Code 20 ILCS 415/17b, according to which suitable positions at state agencies may be identified and included in the DWTP and are thereby reserved for the employment and training of individuals with disabilities. Qualified participants in the program are authorized to work at least 20 hours per week, and the training program duration may be extended up to a maximum of 72 months to allow for the program goals to be achieved and the incumbent to become eligible for promotion to an appropriate full-time position.
The actual duration of the DWTP training period is dependent upon the desirable requirements of the target title and the percentage of a full-time equivalent work schedule that the incumbent works as a trainee. Individuals who successfully complete a trainee appointment are eligible for promotion to the target title without further examination.
