Insurance Company Controller
Highly responsible and visible role designed for a high energy, knowledgeable accounting professional. As the individual who will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer, this individual will serve as Controller and is responsible for supervising and handling the accounting functions of the company. The selected professional will excel in a fast paced, hands-on environment and will establish and maintain company accounting, practices, procedures, analyses, and initiatives. The applicant must possess the intellectual and personality skill sets to potentially qualify for a future position as CFO of our growing and successful organization.
Responsibilities:
Candidate should have vast and detailed experience in general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, monthly closings, financial analysis, financial compliance and regulatory reporting activities, bank reconciliations, general ledger functions, internal auditing, reinsurance, actuarial, Statutory reporting, NAIC and yellow book preparation. Forecasting and budgeting skills are required. Good communication and supervisory skills are a must as there is daily interaction and supervision over accounting and support staff.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field required.
• CPA strongly preferred. Public accounting experience preferred.
• 3 or more years of prior accounting experience in the financial reporting area and/or insurance carrier or insurance auditing background.
• Strong problem solving and leadership skills with dedication to driving and achieving results
• Strong oral and written communication skills, expected to communicate with internal and external stakeholders, including other departments, external and internal auditors. Ability to articulate technical concepts in clear and concise manner.
• Ability to accurately research and follow through on complex problem-solving items, as well as initiate resolutions.
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage, prioritize, and effectively meet deadlines working on multiple assignments simultaneously.
• A commitment to continuous operational improvement.
• Highest level of integrity and honesty.
• Technical IT skills, including highly proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
The salary for this role can range from $120K - $160K, based on a full-time in-office work schedule. The company provides paid holidays, health benefits, and encourages participation in its 401K plan.
