The Systems Analyst reports to Application Manager within Health and Specialty Care Systems (HSCS) unit of Information Technology (IT) department for Health and Human Service Commissions (HHSC).
This position works with the Pharmacy Team Lead to support the pharmacy systems modules within Electronic Health Record (EHR) applications used at the State Hospitals (SH’s)and State Supported Living Centers (SSLC’s).
The System analysts will help maintains the formulary for two individual pharmacy systems, assists end-users in resolving application problems, assists with updates of reference drug database, develop test plans that comply with Information Systems (IS) standards, helps test software updates, provides report writing support for application systems, prepares technical documentation for the installation of software on client workstations, assists technical field support staff on the support of client workstations.
Essential Job Functions:
Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.
Responsible for maintaining accurate drug formularies for both pharmacy systems. Involves completing new drug requests submitted by the pharmacies and assists with pharmacy inventory control. Serves as the contact for the state hospitals and state supported living centers. (65%)
Responsible for analyzing production problems reported by customer staff and problem solving to keep applications and systems operational. Oversees correction of reported problems to ensure timely resolution. (15%)
Monitors the progress of all active issues and reports to the customer daily, and management on a weekly basis. Facilitates the appropriate level of effort and concentration based upon the impact of each issue/problem on the customer community. Analyzes issues and problems to determine if there are existing or emerging trends in a specific application or across the system. (10%)
May evaluate and recommend action on testing and certification of software and hardware upgrades. (5%)
Works with technical field support for client software installation and troubleshooting. (5%)
Knowledge Skills Abilities:
Knowledge of hospital pharmacy workflows and processes.
Knowledge of medical terminology, drug names and manufacturers.
Knowledge of the user of Electronic Health Records.
Skilled in analyzing software/utility issues related to computer applications.
Skilled in critical analysis, solving complex problems and some project planning.
Skilled in both verbal and written interpersonal communications and collaboration.
Ability to effectively work independently or with others in a team environment.
Ability to work undert stressful conditions, with multiple projects and/or deadlines.

Required:
Relevant industry experience in a Hospital Pharmacy.
Graduation from a pharmacy technician program accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP).
Education and experience may be substituted for one another.
Preferred:
Experience in a non-retail pharmacy environment.
Experience supporting or using pharmacy information systems.
Experience supporting or implementing Electronic Health Record systems.
Certified with the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board
Registered with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy
Experience using or administering WORx, MediMAR, or Millennium.

Work outside of regular hours, including occasional afterhours and weekends, may be required.
Will be part of the application support team which requires to provide on-call service rotation among team members.
