Job Description:
Radiology Services of Hampton Roads is seeking a Registered Pharmacy Technician to join our EARLY SHIFT team in Chesapeake, VA. The Pharmacy Technician works under the general supervision of the Pharmacist-in-Charge and under the direct supervision of the nuclear Pharmacist on-Duty. The Pharmacy Technician assists the nuclear pharmacists in all routine tasks associated with the operation of the nuclear pharmacy. The scope of this responsibility specifically does NOT extend to those decisions requiring a pharmacist's judgment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Elution of generators and testing of sodium pertechnetate for molybdenum-99 and aluminum breakthrough.
- Compounding and dispensing radiopharmaceuticals and/or adjunct pharmaceuticals.
- Entering prescription information into a computer and generating labels.
- Performing appropriate quality control tests on radiopharmaceuticals.
- Performing daily and periodic instrumentation tests, such as dose calibrator constancy, linearity and geometry.
- Conducting area surveys and wipe tests for radioactive contamination
- Maintaining sterile compounding work areas in a high state of cleanliness and minimal microbial bioburden.
- Providing leadership and guidance to courier staff in applying the principles of ALARA.
- Receiving verbal orders for diagnostic radiopharmaceuticals
- Labeling leukocytes with Indium 111 or Tc 99 HMPAO
- Monitoring laboratory inventory levels, placing orders, and receiving inventory
- Conducting quarterly inventory of sealed sources.
- Participating in the training of courier and other support personnel as well as providing direction and supervision of couriers.
- Preparing unit dose and bulk radiopharmaceuticals for shipment, including proper DOT classification and labeling
- Performs other duties and tasks as assigned
Qualifications:
- Must hold current Board of Pharmacy credentials as a Registered Pharmacy Technician.
- Must hold either current certification from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or satisfactorily complete a Virginia Board of Pharmacy approved training program and pass a Board of Pharmacy approved examination.
- Valid driver's license and a safe driving record.
- Acceptable driving record for past three years (job continuation subject to approval from Radiology Services' vehicle insurance company).
- Able to lift/carry packages weighing up to 70lbs.
- Able to communicate well with customers and co-workers and to deal with them in a courteous and tactful manner.
- Highly dependable in attendance and job performance.
- Able to work EARLY SHIFT schedule.
- Must be able to stand continuously for at least three hours.
