This position is mostly remote, with occasional in-person appearances in State Court, Immigration Court, USCIS, and our office on in-person consultation days. The candidate must be organized, thrive in a fast-paced environment, and exhibit a positive attitude. Productivity bonuses are available.
*Responsibilities:*
* Manage a high-volume caseload covering various immigration matters, including but not limited to asylum, special immigrant juvenile status, custody petitions, family-based petitions and visas, non-immigrant visa processing, TPS, consular processing, bond, DACA, employment authorization documents, adjustment of status, naturalization, hardship waivers, Cancellation of Removal, U-and T-Visas, appeals, and other motions and legal memoranda as needed.
* Conduct thorough reviews of paralegal work products and provide constructive feedback.
* Actively participate in team meetings to foster collaborative discussions and share insights.
* Engage in one-on-one sessions with supervising attorneys to ensure alignment with team goals and objectives.
* Facilitate individualized one-on-one meetings with paralegals to address specific needs, provide guidance, and enhance professional development.
* Attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.
* Collaborate with colleagues and other professionals to develop case strategies.
* Stay updated on changes in laws and regulations that may impact client cases.
* Conduct phone, video, and in-person interviews and consultations with prospective clients during consultation days.
* Represent clients in custody and guardianship proceedings in Maryland Circuit Court through a Maryland license.
* Provide representation in USCIS interviews.
* Represent clients in federal immigration court and other administrative bodies on immigration matters.
* Assist with community outreach and represent the office at various community and professional functions and meetings.
*Requirements:*
* Law degree from an accredited law school and a license to practice law in at least one State or U.S. territory required.
* If not licensed in Maryland, within 2 years of hire, the candidate is required to pass the certification exam for admission to the Bar of Maryland, if applicable.
* At least two years of experience practicing immigration law.
* Conduct legal research and analysis to support ongoing cases and provide guidance to clients
* Knowledge of immigration law and immigration court procedures.
* Business immigration experience, including L, H, B, and E visas, I-140s, PERMs, etc is a plus.
* Legal experience in immigration bond hearings or removal defense work is a plus.
* Strong knowledge of legal principles, procedures, and practices
* Excellent research, writing, and communication skills
* Proficiency in legal administrative tasks, including document management and organization
* Familiarity with legal research tools such as Lexis-Nexis and Westlaw
* Fluency in Spanish is required.
* Consistent and reliable means of transportation for representation at Baltimore and Hyattsville Immigration Courts and other locations within the Central Maryland region.
* Proficient in basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
*Salary/Benefits:*
This is a full-time position with a competitive salary. A 3-month probationary period will be in place. Salary is commensurate with experience.
