Compensation: The compensation for this engagement will be $2,600.00 per month. The estimated time commitment for these services is expected to be 100 hours per month (25 hours per week) for this fixed rate.

Project Summary:
CPJ seeks a U.S. Election Contractor to track press freedom-related trends across the United States, researching for and writing breaking news copy on the United States and assisting the Program Coordinator with event organization. The Contractor will also work closely with the U.S. Press Freedom Tracker to streamline workflows.
This project may include tracking press freedom violations in Canada, should the need arise. The Contractor will also create social media copy for the regional program and send emails to a large audience.
The U.S. Election Contractor supports CPJ’s U.S., Canada, and Caribbean Program Coordinator and also works closely with the Emergencies, Advocacy, and Communications teams and CPJ partner organizations.
Project Scope:
- Monitor, report, and document press freedom violations in the United States for CPJ on tight deadlines
- Collaborate with partner organizations on breaking news research, writing, and monitoring incidents in the U.S.
- Ahead of conventions, work with the Program Coordinator on safety material distribution
- Work with Communications and Advocacy teams to distribute CPJ copy in a relevant and timely manner
- Review and research requests for assistance from journalists in the region
- Participate in advocacy linked to the research
Qualifications :
- 2+ years of related experience in journalism
- Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication, project management, and problem-solving skills
- Impeccable multi-tasking ability and exceptional interpersonal skills
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, and Google required
- Ability to work in a quickly changing, deadline-oriented environment
- Relevant U.S. regional knowledge
- Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to consistently deliver high-quality, accurate work
- Fluency in Spanish is preferred
