Description: Works closely with the Environmental and Code Coordinator to support the development and implementation of sustainability programs for the Township of Montclair. Provides essential administrative assistance with environmental stewardship initiatives for municipal operations, residents, schools, and local businesses. Work is performed under general direction of the Environmental and Code Coordinator, who reviews performance for adherence to departmental policies and procedures.
Duties: Provides general administrative support to ensure smooth operations of the Office of Sustainability. Handles email and phone inquiries, as well as drafting official correspondence. Assists in the design and implementation of waste prevention strategies and energy reduction programs; conducts research on environmental best practices, sustainability trends, and relevant technological advancements. Assists with the Township's environmental, energy efficiency, and sustainability-related programs and assists in grant application writing. Contributes to the development, implementation, and distribution of plans, press releases, and educational materials. Helps the department to maintain good relations with the general public. Assists with organizing and coordinating events and fundraisers. Stays updated on relevant trends, best practices, and technology advancements through self-directed monitoring.
Requirements: Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in Sustainability, Environmental Studies, or a similarly related field; excellent research and analytical skills to gather and interpret relevant data; strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including government officials, community members, and local businesses. Must possess excellent skills using MS Word, Excel, and be comfortable learning new software. Must be highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines; self-motivated and capable of working independently. Successful candidate will possess willingness to adapt and learn about emerging trends and advancements in the field of environmental sustainability and a strong passion for environmental sustainability and stewardship.
Salary: $50,722.00 - $71,818.00. This range is specific to the job level and considers the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to: education, experience, licensure, certifications, geographic location, and internal equity. This range has been created in good faith based on information known to the Twp of Montclair at the time of posting. Compensation decisions depend on the circumstances of each candidate. The Twp also provides a comprehensive compensation/ benefits package which includes health benefits (Medical/Dental/Vision); generous PTO, retirement plan and pension.
