GENERAL SUMMARY:
Inspects and audits inspection procedures and equipment relating to precision machined work-pieces at various stages of production to determine and maintain quality and reliability of products
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Sample or 100% inspects parts to verify conformance to specification and tags parts,
transfers discrepant parts to staging areas and notifies appropriate personnel of discrepancies.
2. Interprets blue prints, engineering drawings, or formulas and confers with
management, or engineering staff to determine quality and reliability standards.
3. Plans and audits inspection procedures and decides on allowable variations utilizing blueprints, engineering specifications, historical data, and/or knowledge of product application.
4. Records test data and generates reports, charts and/or graphs applying statistical
quality control procedures. Distributes this information to appropriate personnel or departments.
5. Recommends modifications of existing quality or production standards to achieve optimum quality within limits of equipment capability and customer or engineering requirements.
6. Performs first part inspections and notifies production personnel of approvals for continuation of process, in a timely manner
7. Measures dimensions such as length, height, and distance between reference points by using precision measuring instruments, such as micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and gauges to ensure product meets specifications.
8. Locates reference points and measures dimensions, such as angle, arc, and radii using a combination of aids, such as gauge blocks, V-blocks, surface plates, optical comparator and other measuring instruments.
9. Compares surface finishes on work-piece to specifications using profilometer or by using a standard block and fingertip touch comparison.
10. Audits and calibrates all company inspection equipment to ensure reliability and accuracy.
11. Investigates in-house or customer generated complaints or requests for corrective action and notifies management or production personnel of disposition of discrepant product or process.
12 Transfers inspected parts to specified staging areas.
13. Uses and/or audits use, by other employees, of SPC and other methods of statistical analysis.

14. May instruct other Company personnel in inspection methods and procedures. .
15. Performs other related duties as assigned by Quality Manager.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
1. Knowledge of operating procedures in a precision industrial environment.
2. Knowledge of math and writing skills to successfully compute and complete
timecards and in-process records.
3. Knowledge of blueprints and drawings to interpret operating requirements.
4. Knowledge of precision measuring units to .00001 of an inch.
5. Knowledge of statistical analysis methods normally used in a precision industrial environment and the related formulas associated with those methods, such as statistical process control, or machine capability studies.
6. Skill in the accurate calibration of precision measuring instruments.
7. Skill in demonstrating general hand dexterity sufficient to complete normal job
functions.
8. Skill in determining inspection specifications and allowable tolerances from
blueprints or other specification sheets.
9. Skill in using precision instruments to determine conformance of machined parts to specifications, such as microscopes, gauges, meters, comparators, and profilometers.
10. Ability to use personal computer.
11. Ability to communicate with supervisors and other employees.
12. Ability to learn and to demonstrate company safety practices.
13. Ability to see well enough to use measuring devices and visually inspect parts to meet
quality standards.
14. Ability to interpret blueprints, engineering specifications, technical charts and graphs, and inter-company communications to successfully perform the essential job functions.
15. Ability to lift up to 30 lb. on an occasional basis.
16. Participate and contribute in Management Review Meetings.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school graduate or the equivalent, plus minimum of two years of experience as an inspector in any precision industry is required. ASQ certified Mechanical Inspector (CMI) is desirable.
