We are seeking a career-minded individual for the position of Additive Manufacturing Lab Engineer, preferably someone who is looking for long-term growth and potential. SUMMARY: Plans, directs, and coordinates lab projects with high complexity utilizing a large variety of critical skills.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Follow and design standards to lead to the standardization of AM building processes.
- Metallurgical evaluation of metallic specimens and components as related to AM process parameters related to
o Patent applications
o Tailored materials according to the industry need in co-operation with powder manufacture
o Material development, process parameters and technical input as it relates to metal AM pro
o AM material acceptance tests in a metallography laboratory.
o Support in metallic specimen preparation.
- Thermal heat treatments and hot isostatic press processing of AM parts to refine and improve performance of
- Mechanical engineering and testing of AM products. Including.
o Tensile Testing
o Fatigue Testing (LCF and HCF)
o Creep and Stress Rupture Testing
- Strong 3D modeling background using a number of the following:
o Materialise Magics SG+
o SolidWorks, NX, Pro-E.
o HyperWorks, solidThinking, Autodesk Within
- CNC programming, CNC operation and support to machine specimens and fixtures for lab testing.
- Ability to work with CNC operators.
- Ability to work at international level in order to transfer high level technical information to support AM process
- Provide technical guidance to Additive Lab Technicians.
- Comply and ensure compliance with company policies, facility procedures and processes
- Possess an open mind and innovative mentality to lead development of cutting-edge technology
- Ensure environmental policies and procedures are followed. Participate in continuous improvement activities
Project Coordination
- Assist with procurement of equipment, parts, supplies as needed.
- Analyze data and draw conclusions to make recommendations.
- Provide technical assistance support to projects as defined by the project coordinator.
- Develop and produce reports of study data for project staff and stakeholders.
- Inform leadership of project status on an ongoing basis.
- Track project financials, including creating work orders and validate invoices.
- Manage and perform service call and work order tasks to completion.
- Responsible for generating, interpreting, and printing various assigned reports.
- Ensure technical documentation is properly reviewed and maintained and made available in a timely manner.
- Develop and implement methods and tools by which to organize, standardize, and manage pre-screening activities.
Lab Engineering
- Complete or assist in the completion of design studies.
- Assist with the operation maintenance and repair of equipment.
- Practice and comply with safety standards at all times.
- Assist in the installation, maintenance, and general support of systems.
- Provide design inputs and reviews of other projects.
Project Engineering
- Supervise staff in carrying out plans, programs, and services.
- Travel as necessary to suppliers, conferences, and manufacturing facilities.
- Coordinate with project managers to successfully deliver projects to clients.
- Perform design, development, and/or analysis to support assigned projects.
- Engage with internal resources to ensure fulfillment of the project.
- Generate periodic reports on behalf of clients on the project status.
- Track, report and work to improve production of self-performed work
Materials Engineering
- Run and analyze experiments to test materials and processes.
- Create and implement tools to audit efficiency and identify cost reduction opportunities across the factory and the warehouse.
- Develop and maintain relationships of interest both internally and externally.
- Support and maintain a functioning lab with necessary test capability and expert consultation.
- Embrace the necessity for change and commitment to continual growth and progress.
- Ensure quality product by using necessary measuring equipment.
Data Analyzing
- Support and contribute to data collection efforts, as needed.
- Verify data quality to ensure accurate analysis and reporting.
- Monitor data management processes to ensure data quality and consistency.
- Hire, coach and develop to exceed customer expectations.
- Contribute to data dictionary, standards, training, and ongoing updates
Research and Development Engineering
- Perform data analysis to identify trends and opportunities of improvement.
- Actively lead in team engagement action planning and implementation.
- Prepare and contribute to technical documents, product manuals, and protocols.
- Design and oversee manufacturing of test equipment and apparatus.
- Assist in process development, product optimization, including manufacturing and QC procedures.
- Help organize and participate in testing trials as required.
- Lead scientific evaluation.
- Assist with the evaluation and recommendation of new equipment and technology.
- Audit review programs and make corrections based on findings.
- Serve as technical project lead (principal investigator) for integration process development programs.
- Work closely with internal operations teams to understand and address their requirements.
- Review work products and documents to ensure technical rigor and quality of laboratory results.
- Assist in other tasks as required
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university in a technical or related field required.
- Demonstrated ability to balance department efficiency and service excellence.

- Demonstrated interpersonal, collaborative, and relationship-building skills; ability to interact positively with

REQUIREMENTS:
- Easily adapt to new organizations / technical environments
- Project management on small to medium projects
PREFERRED:
- Aerospace experience
- Previous Additive Manufacturing experience
- Previous Testing Laboratory experience
- Metallurgy experience.
