Responsible for repairing and overhauling Truck and trailer repair. Must be certified in the use of the following diagnostic software programs: Detroit, CAT, Cummins, Wabco, Volvo, Mack, Isuzu Service link, Allison and Mercedes. Must have experience working on electrical systems, brakes, suspension and drive trains including experience troubleshooting, maintaining, repairing and rebuilding CAT, Detroit, and Cummins engines. Experience performing annual fire pump tests, welding experience and extensive small tool and small equipment repair experience is a must.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

- Inspect and diagnose mechanical defects in mechanical equipment, including diesel engines, gasoline engines, transmissions, water pumps, hydraulic equipment and other equipment typical to vehicles
- Performs repair and maintenance work on vehicles and heavy equipment including brake work, chassis work, transmissions, electrical work, fuel systems, cooling systems emission control systems, and welding
- Performs preventative maintenance on trucks and equipment including inspections, changing oil, greasing, and tune-ups
- Operates units after repairs are complete to ensure good working order and that problems were corrected
- Regular attendance is an essential function for a Diesel Technician/Diesel Mechanic
- Perform other job duties as assigned
Qualifications & Skills:
- The Diesel Technician/ Diesel Mechanic demonstrate proficiency in the repair and diagnosis
- Product knowledge and experience understanding technical issues and ability to apply previous technical experience to solve technical problems
- Practiced documentation skills
- Must be able to read, write and understand service instructions
- Experience using repair manuals, wiring (electrical) diagrams and schematics necessary to troubleshoot or repair vehicle or component failure
- Strong technical/mechanical skills and experience required; product knowledge helpful
- Diesel Technician must be organized
- Must be able to read, write and understand service instructions
- Computer skills are important
Education & Experience:
- Diesel Technician/ Diesel Mechanic 3 to 5 years repair experience
- Thorough knowledge of automotive mechanics; Considerable knowledge of gas and diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulics, fire pumps and valves, generators, and welding; price trends and grades or quality of materials and equipment; Working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions common to municipal maintenance and repair activities; Working knowledge of the practices, methods, materials and tools used in modern equipment maintenance.
Tool Requirements:
- Have a complete set of hand tools.
