Job Description: Web Content Designer
The State of Connecticut seeks a Digital Accessibility Expert to enhance accessibility and usability for its digital products and services. You will identify issues, recommend solutions, and ensure compliance across various service areas, including health, business, education, transportation, employment, IT, and customer service. Your expertise will help achieve WCAG compliance and maintain accessibility standards, ensuring all residents can participate equally.

Key Responsibilities
Testing and Remediation:
- Conduct and implement improvements to digital assets for accessibility compliance.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate accessibility best practices.
- Provide code review and remediation support.
Assessment:
- Audit current systems and processes to identify accessibility issues.
- Summarize findings and recommend remediation solutions.
- Evaluate vendor products for accessibility compliance.
Documentation:
- Document compliance levels and create reports identifying gaps.
- Support the development of an enterprise accessibility strategy.
Strategy & Development:
- Foster inclusive environments for all users, including neurodiverse individuals.
- Collaborate with partners to identify and implement best practices.
- Align accessibility guidance with state regulations.
Testing/QA:
- Conduct routine accessibility checks for state websites and digital assets.
- Integrate testing policies to ensure compliance during product development.
Communication:
- Advocate for digital accessibility within and outside the organization.
- Provide success metrics and KPI reporting to stakeholders.
Training:
- Conduct accessibility training sessions and develop training materials.
- Promote accessibility best practices across teams.
Maintenance:
- Oversee and support ongoing compliance with federal, state, and local accessibility laws.
- Stay updated on the latest WCAG, ADA, and Section 508 regulations.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities.
- 5+ years of experience in digital accessibility compliance (WCAG 2.2 AA, ADA, Section 508).
- 5+ years of experience in testing and QA activities.
- Expertise in assistive technology tools (JAWS, NVDA, Dragon, Fusion).
- Strong understanding of user-centered design (UCD) methodologies.
- Experience in responsive web design principles and frameworks.
- Proficiency with MS Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Microsoft Teams, Outlook, and Zoom.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Skills & Qualifications.
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- IAAP, PMP, or DHS Trusted Tester certification.
- Experience with accessibility tools (eVinced, Axe, WebAIM).
- Knowledge of research methods and data visualization tools.
Other Desired Skills.
- Degree in HCI, UX Design, Psychology, Instructional Design, or Computer Science.
- Experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and jQuery.
- Proficiency with Adobe XD, Jira/Confluence, Sitecore, and Salesforce.
Desired Certifications
- IAAP certification (CPACC, WAS, etc.)
- PMP certification
- DHS Trusted Tester certification
