About the role
We’re looking for a VP of Design to lead our suite of products at Rippling and our talented team of Product Designers, Product Researchers, and Content Designers. This position requires a leader who thrives in creating clarity, is comfortable navigating complex domains, thinks systematically about design, and has experience designing for technical and non-technical customers. This role sits in the R&D org and reports directly to the CPO.
What you will do

Lead a team of 40+ Product Designers, UX Researchers, and Content Designers. This will include 5 Product Design Leaders, 1 UX Research Leader, and 1 Content Design Leader who will directly report to you.

Partner closely with the CPO, CTO, and CEO to define, direct, and influence strategic vision for Rippling’s suite of products, bringing together multiple product areas into a holistic experience.

Partner closely with fellow leaders in Product Management, Engineering, and Go-To-Market to build delightful multi-product experiences for our customers.

Ensure the larger design, product management, and engineering teams are thinking systematically about our product. You will be the lead voice in advocating for design system and building block (our platform features) usage throughout the design process.

Be heavily involved in quarterly planning for each team to ensure Design’s growth is aligned with the work that needs to be done.

Ensure the team has clear priorities across workstreams and track progress of the work.

Help define and drive the vision for our net new products and verticals.

Attract and retain top talent, including maintaining our culture of end-to-end product design.

Deliver real-time feedback to your team in our weekly UX Syncs, 1-on-1s, Design Management Meetings, Design All Hands, and other ad hoc forums.

Continue the development of our Design Leveling Systems and how we are assessing performance as we scale in a fair and equitable manner.

Be on the lookout for inflection points as we scale that call for adjustments in our team processes.

Create broad visibility into learnings and impact; develop an organization-wide understanding of and enthusiasm for the strategic impact your team delivers to the company.

Manage the overall team spend, from software to research.
You’ll be a great fit if…
You’re a talented hands-on designer and not above rolling up your sleeves to design with your team.
You’ve worked on complex systems during your career and can operate at a 10,000-foot view down to a foot view on initiatives.
You operate well in the unknown and enjoy crafting strategy and vision to give clarity to the team.
You tackle problems head-on and have a bias for action.
You’re experienced in building strong relationships across an organization and influencing and aligning people up to the executive level.
You exhibit relentless customer focus and inspire through customer stories.
You balance both qualitative and quantitative data in your decision-making, as well as customer and business needs.
You have a successful track record of leading cross-functional teams to deliver great product experiences for technical and non-technical customers.
You have a high bar for design and believe designers should have a well-rounded skill set to take on end-to-end projects, from product thinking to interface design.
You’ve hired and managed a growing team across multiple levels and disciplines.
You have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
You’re comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
What you will need

12+ years of experience in product design: 6+ years as an individual contributor and 6+ years in management.

Work that demonstrates a high level of design and complexity.

Track record of leading teams that ship high-quality products in a fast-paced environment.

Bachelor’s degree or above in a design-related field, or comparable work experience.

Experience in systems thinking, including defining design systems.

Experience with B2B and B2C products preferred.
