Winchester Thurston School, a Junior Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12 independent school in Pittsburgh, announces an immediate opening for a full-time City as Our Campus Manager. This is a one-year position (July 2024 – June 2025); the incumbent may apply for the permanent position which will begin for the 2025-26 school year.
WT’s nationally recognized City as Our Campus is an important element of the WT experience and provides opportunities for experiential learning across all divisions and departments. As an extension of our core academic program, City as Our Campus provides meaningful, authentic experiences that engage a diversity of community members, utilize various locations in our city as learning environments, and study real-world problems as a way of enhancing student learning and preparing them to be informed and engaged citizens.
The City as Our Campus Manager provides organizational and logistical management of faculty-led curricular activities and programs that engage community partners and resources. These activities and programs include assisting with community-based, project-based, and service learning in collaboration with faculty and the Director of Academics. In addition, the City as Our Campus Manager will help coordinate and collaborate on other school-related initiatives that connect or support City as Our Campus, including faculty professional development, parent education, student activities, and other needs as determined in support of the School’s goals and strategic priorities.
The City as Our Campus Manager will work closely with the Assistant Head for Teaching and Learning, the Director of Academics, faculty members, students, and community partners. The City as Our Campus Manager performs under the general direction of the Head of School and the daily supervision of the Assistant Head for Teaching and Learning. The individual in this position serves in a manner that advances and upholds the mission and philosophy of Winchester Thurston School.
The City as Our Campus Manager is responsible for the following duties and responsibilities:
- Support the faculty in planning and implementing City as Our Campus experiences and other community-based, project-based, and service-learning initiatives, including but not limited to the following tasks:
· Coordinate and communicate the logistics of related learning experiences, programs, and other events including scheduling, transportation, invoicing and billing, etc.
· Ensure that partners have appropriate clearances and complete necessary documents to facilitate the processing of stipends, as applicable
· Serve as a liaison between faculty and community partners to facilitate new and existing connections by coordinating appropriate community partners for each City as Our Campus experience
· Maintain database of community partners and other relevant contacts
· Review, maintain and/or improve operational policies and procedures while maintaining the academic policies and standards of best practices relating to community engagement
· Attend City as Our Campus events to serve as primary organizer and/or chaperone, when needed
· Manage communications related to City as Our Campus and the academic program
· Serve as the spokesperson for City as Our Campus on behalf of the school
- Support the Director of Equity, Inclusion, and Wellness in implementing programs and learning experiences that engage students in related work while also aligning City as Our Campus and community engagement with DEI goals
- Attend Division, Department Chair, Academic Administration, and other meetings, as requested
- Collaborate with Admissions on outreach and promotion of City as Our Campus to prospective families
- Manage and monitor City as Our Campus and other related budgets
- Perform other duties as requested or assigned, including chaperoning field trips or events, serving as a door greeter, etc.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree is required; a Master’s degree is preferred
- Prior project management or event planning experience
- Ability to collaborate and build relationships with faculty and community partners
- Excellent organizational, logistical, and planning skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team setting
- Responsive to requests and ability to quickly address logistical problems, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines
- Proficiency in Google Drive is preferred
