The Junior Trader is an exciting opportunity aimed at building a foundational understanding of the coffee trade and developing a book of business and network of industry contacts.

Junior Trader
Job description and summary
The junior trader will assist with sales execution and account management, learn the ins and outs of the coffee trade, and begin to develop their own book of business, helping drive sales and profitability for our international desk. This position bears responsibility for procurement and sales, trade volumes and margins, customer satisfaction, opportunity and risk assessment, and information exchange within our commercial team. With high energy, drive, a self-starting mentality, creativity, and outstanding communication skills, the junior trader will contribute to continued business growth. This role will actively engage with our quality team, acting as a member of our daily sensory team (coffee cupping panel). The junior trader will have frequent contact with the global Trabocca team, in addition to suppliers, customers, and service-providers.
Who are you?
- Participate in discussions about the strategic commercial development of designated supply chains, customer segments, and responsible sales region(s)
- Develop and/or hone a practical understanding of coffee trading mechanics: fixations, differentials, hedging, futures, C price, finance, carry, and more
- Assist in managing and updating our online sales portal: pricing updates, coffee descriptions, and availability
- Responsible for sales and account management within designated categories and responsible regions
- Discover and develop new sales opportunities with new and existing customers
- Manage sales positions to ensure healthy trades and positive margins
- Master our ERP system (Microsoft Dynamics Axapta) to ensure contracts are structured and entered correctly
- Execute monthly expired sales contract reports and follow up with customers to present position status reports and develop draw-down plans. Work with Logistics to keep coffee moving.
- Work collaboratively with all Trabocca departments to provide top-level customer service; on-time and in-spec deliveries, and detailed and proactive communication.
- Attend industry events (SCA Expo, Roaster’s Guild, etc) to make connections, meet vendors and customer prospects, assist with hosting and/or host public cuppings
- Visit prospective new customers
- Daily lab work/participation – cup a wide range of coffees in line with industry-accepted protocols in order to understand and match profiles with customer needs, and to reduce the risk of non-performing inventory on arrival
What we ask?
- Bachelor's Degree / various specialties can succeed in this role: Supply Chain, Logistics, Economics, Business Management, Agribusiness, etc.
- 2-3+years in a commercial environment is preferred
- Cross-cultural study and/or work
- Exposure to international business relations
- Responsible for a portfolio of customers, working independently, interaction with customers has a direct impact on customer relationships.
- Good knowledge of business processes related to owning, discipline proactively anticipating developments, Tactical
- Works under general supervision are able to work without supervision for periods of time.
- Notices bottlenecks, suggests solutions and attunes with senior colleagues when needed.
- Focus on supporting more than one commercial/production business processes
Where you will be working
Trabocca sources and trades specialty-grade green (raw) coffee on a global scale, with an emphasis on coffees from Ethiopia, Kenya, Peru, Colombia, and Brazil. This position is based out of the Minneapolis office. It is conveniently located near 35W in South Minneapolis.
The Junior Trader will have frequent contact with the global Trabocca team, in addition to suppliers, customers, and service providers.
