Position Summary
Rail Supervisor reports directly to the Sr. Yard Manager. The Rail Supervisor oversees daily operations of automotive loading / unloading. This position will ensure quality and safety standards are being upheld by performing continuous audits with management staff. The Rail Supervisor position will also, at times, perform the job duties of the Sr. Yard Manager.
The Rail Supervisor will also have responsibility for Work Quality Standards, Loss and Damage Prevention., Claims, Document Control, Safety as well as handle personnel matters
Rail Supervisor will present damage prevention or process changes as required. They will attend customer meetings, phone conferences, understand customer requirements and meet or exceed their expectations. Rail Supervisor will generate alternatives and make recommendations on improving the overall work process.
Position Responsibilities:
- Manage daily loading/unloading operations; ensuring securement in the railcars.
- Ensure compliance with company, AAR and manufacturer requirements, policies and procedures.
- Maintain/perform daily reporting.
- Communicate with rail crew regarding work assignments.
- Complete on-rail inspections.
- Perform daily quality audits.
- Equipment assignment and inspections.
- Load makeup.
Essential Skills and Experience:
Education
- 4-year college degree or 4 years’ management experience.
Training
- Demonstrated “expert” level usage of MS office products including Excel, Access, and Power Point.
- Understanding and experience with Total Quality management.
Skills
- Teamwork, decision-making, problem solving, communications, customer focus, confidentiality, planning, organizing, process management, tolerance of ambiguity, and time management.
- Analytical skills
- The ability to determine trends and anomalies
- General knowledge of railroad operations.
Experience
- Successful Team Leader or equivalent experience in a prior position.
- Experience with meeting valid external customer requirements, supervisory/managerial capabilities, process management, and PC skills.
