Job Summary
The Purchasing Associate is accountable for purchasing products, components, and ancillary supplies, locating suppliers, researching supplies, services, and materials, and creating purchase orders. Effective integration and coordination of inventory, sales and shipment activities with Universal Medical parts repair and testing, production, service, sales / procurement, and administration teams are required. Optimize product flow to support customer satisfaction, and internal / external Universal Medical initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in purchasing and possess excellent negotiation skills.
Essential Functions
- Procure materials and parts required to support production, parts repair, service activities, sales inventory, and administration teams.
- Research suppliers, submits requests to Quality for qualification, and ensures recommended suppliers been reviewed and added to the approved supplier list before making purchases.
- Create purchase orders for supplies and materials, organize, arrange delivery, and confirm delivery.
- Oversee all purchase order creation aspects of Inventory / Service Management System database.
- Develop procurement strategies that are inventive and cost effective.
- Conduct cost analysis, monitors, and reports on price variances, and establishes benchmarks for improvement.
- Implement cost-saving strategies while maintaining quality standards.
- Stay updated on market trends, pricing, and new products to make informed purchasing decisions.
- Assist the Director of Quality and Improvement in performing supplier evaluations.

Education/Training

2+ years’ experience in a purchasing role
Experience in securing competitive, cost-effective pricing
Strong ERP capabilities
Vendor relationship management
Experience using Great Plains software
