Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Director of Development to join our team. The Director of Development is a dynamic, creative, and organized individual who is interested in helping, For Love of Children’s (FLOC) mission to thrive and grow. This position will play a critical role in the grant management, sponsorship, and events for FLOC. The Director of Development is responsible for developing and assisting in the growth of grant funding for various programs by planning and implementing strategic social media campaigns and communications that increase the social media footprint of the organization. Enhance its reputation, engage key stakeholder groups, and support its work overall. Ensuring revenue goals are met for various fundraising areas.
Responsibilities:
- Works with the Executive Director to determine the mission, purpose, and priorities of the organization.
- Assists the Executive Director in annual revenue projections for use in the annual budget in line with previous outcomes and strategic planning according to short- and long-term goals.
- Establishes fundraising objectives for the organization, setting one year, five year, and longer-term goals.
- Maintains a list of potential financial donors including corporations, foundations, and individuals.
- Identify, establish, and maintain relationships with individual donors, corporate partners, and community organizations to secure gifts, sponsorships, and grants.
- Prioritize stewardship and recognition to cultivate long-term relationships with donors.
- Produces relevant and informative fundraising literature for distribution to previous donors and the public.
- Researches potential sources of, and applies for, grants and public funding.
- Oversees the fundraising process and maintains records of receipts and disbursements of funds.
- Support, seek, and lead the implementation of the grant management from multiple sources (such as: foundations, corporations, government), while collaborating with the grant writing team to write funding proposals.
- Responsible for tracking and submitting grant reports.
- Assist in the creation and execution of fundraising events.
- Overseeing website updates.
- Developing donor newsletters, annual reports, writing appeal letters, thank you notes, and email communication.
- Construct graphs and reports to convey their strategies and needs.
- Support external, internal, and fundraising activities including but not limited to; attending meetings, correspondence, and coordination with donors, vendors, staff, and volunteers; set-up and cleanup; organizing and maintaining files and records of all events and activities.
- Other duties assigned by the Executive Director.
Skills:
- Ability to convey a high degree of commitment and passion for our mission.
- Extensive knowledge of fundraising strategies and principles.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate information verbally and written confidently with a diverse range of audiences.
- High level of attention to detail.
- Imaginative, creative, and responsive attitude toward campaign management.
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
- Knowledge of grants management, research, proposal creation and reporting.
- Exceptional understanding of philanthropy as it relates to the non-profit organization and a wide and deep knowledge of fundamental disciplines of resource development.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team; detail oriented, well organized, focused and goal oriented, with a high level of initiative and energy, as well as problem solving skills.
- Excellent management and supervisory skills.
- Knowledge of tax planning principles and techniques that favor charitable giving.
- Proficient in Google Office Suite or similar software.
- Ability to complete tasks with little to no supervision.
- Self-motivated, good organizational, and strong interpersonal skills, detail-oriented, ability to multitask, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
- Knowledgeable and passionate about youth development and education issues in Washington, DC.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Marketing or similar field preferred.
- Five years of experience in fundraising for a nonprofit organization is highly preferred.
- (3) years of Event planning/management/production experience
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

Pay: $90,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
