Assistant Nursing Director (Med Surg)
The Assistant Nursing Director will be a registered nurse which will report to the department nursing director and CNO. The assistant director will function as a charge nurse and/or team member in prescribing, delegating, and coordinating the nursing care facility for a continually evolving team of patients. The assistant director is responsible and accountable for utilizing the nursing process in the delivery of safe, appropriate, cost effective quality patient care and the direction of the team members in the delivery of that nursing care. The Assistant Director is responsible for all duties and responsibilities of the RN as well as a leadership role in their Department, coordinating and delegating patient placement based on patient acuity and staff skill level.
This position will identify and address any quality-assurance auditing issues, assist with making rounds during patient checks. This position also aids in coordinating nursing services programs within the department, reviews staff performance and ensures standards of quality care are adhered to.
The assistant director competently performs direct and indirect patient care activities; demonstrates effective positive leadership in the department setting. Participates in the role of teacher/collaborator/patient advocate; demonstrates effective communication and skills; demonstrates responsibility for personal and professional growth; participates in creating an atmosphere of mutual trust, acceptance, recognition and respect. As an assistant director of nursing, they will work with the director to identify and resolve departmental deficiencies and implement correction plans.
This person functions as the charge nurse, nursing supervisor and participates with physicians and clinical staff as a multidisciplinary team. The RN participates in the planning, delivery, and evaluation of care to patients admitted to Rhea Medical Center. This RN also serves in a leadership role for the department, performs direct and indirect patient care activities, staff education, competencies, evaluations and performance improvement audits.
The AD job duties would consist of the following roles:
Assist the Director in coordinating and facilitating patient care services according to established standards.
· Plan and schedule daily work for nursing staff.
· Identify areas of improvement and implement corrective plans.
· Supervise and guide nurses in providing quality patient care to ensure patient satisfaction.
· Ensure nursing staff follow hospital policies and procedures.
· Monitor performance of each nurse and provide feedback.
· Maintain positive, safe and achievement oriented working environment. Educate nursing staff on hospital policies and department processes.
· Assist in training, performance evaluation and disciplinary actions.
· Prepare and maintain administrative documents, budget reports and audits, as assigned by Director.
· Work with Director to determine staffing requirements and shift schedules.
· Other duties as assigned by Director
· Patient satisfaction rounding
The Assistant Director position on night shift will put leadership in the building on nightshift.
