Overview:
Overland is looking for a dedicated Safety and Compliance Specialist to join our team. In this mid-level role, you will play a crucial part in maintaining and enhancing our safety and compliance programs, ensuring our operations meet all regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure daily compliance with all local, state, and federal safety regulations, including FMCSA and DOT standards.
Driver Onboarding: Manage the onboarding process for new drivers, ensuring all required documents, background checks, and drug testing are completed per federal regulations.
Safety Culture Promotion: Build and maintain a positive safety culture that recognizes and rewards safe behaviors while providing coaching and feedback for unsafe behaviors.
Oversee monthly random DOT testing.
Monitor telematics systems, including ELDs, hours of service, and cameras.
Analyze safety data to identify trends and recommend improvements.
Review driver logs, inspection reports, and overall safety performance.
Conduct regular safety audits and inspections, and develop corrective action plans.
Investigate incidents, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
Handle worker compensation claims and ensure proper documentation.
Maintain driver qualification files in accordance with company and DOT guidelines.
Coordinate with maintenance teams to ensure vehicles are properly maintained and repaired.
Ensure compliance with cargo security policies, including theft and damage prevention.
File and manage insurance claims, ensuring timely and fair resolution.
Report and investigate accidents and incidents, implementing corrective actions as necessary.
Perform other duties as assigned by leadership.
Requirements:
3-5 years of experience in a safety and compliance role within the transportation industry or related field.
Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local transportation safety regulations (FMCSA, DOT).
Experience with telematics systems, including ELDs and hours of service.
Strong leadership, communication, and training skills.
Analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in safety, logistics, or a related field.
Certifications such as Certified Director of Safety (CDS) or Certified Transportation Safety Professional (CTSP).
Experience in the intermodal drayage industry.
