POSITION SUMMARY:
- Company Driver Managers focus on representing the best interests of both the Driver and the company. They are the #1 point of contact for drivers. The dispatcher is a part of a team that helps create, schedule, and track trucking routes, shipments, and drivers. The dispatcher will be responsible for 20-50 drivers at a time.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS FOR THIS POSITION:
- Direct & dispatch drivers - Check in on all drivers & enter check calls and details into software. Update ETA's.
- Schedule, plan and confirm pick ups, deliveries and on-call schedules.
- Communicate proactively and quickly between load planners, customers, brokers, & drivers.
- Assign all work flow to drivers and confirm compliance.
- Resolve scheduling issues that arise.
- Provide warnings and updates to customers, brokers, and load planners when a driver is going to be late or if a driver has been sitting for too long (detention) at a location. Keep track of detentions and layovers.
- Assure driver compliance to DOT, and all other regulatory requirements and company safety goals. Ensure the driver performs safely.
- Directly handle break down calls and ensure load is delivered by driver or re-powered.
- Oversee adherence to company fleet maintenance program including scheduling repairs, inspections, etc.
- Build relationships with Drivers to understand their expectations & preferences.
- Manage revenue and mileage goals for each driver and the fleet as a whole. Counsel drivers who are not meeting metric goals/expectations. Directly influences the routes assigned to the drivers for optimal success for the driver and company.
- Oversees performance for each driver and fleet as a whole. Coach all drivers who perform below goals/expectations.
- Determines which drivers may require termination based on poor performance.
- Update BOL's and paperwork accurately and timely
- Regular and predictable attendance

OTHER SIGNIFICANT JOB FUNCTIONS INCLUDE:
- Focus on good starts to each week (Monday mornings).
- Help the Driver understand the plan. And look ahead for the Driver ensuring that he/she will have a good week.
- Sell the loads to the Drivers.
- Ensure Driver’s acceptance of a load.
- Establish clear expectations for Drivers when they first begin.
- Counsel/mentor/lead drivers
- Update Expiration and Driver Statuses accurately and timely in transportation management software.
- Assist and collaborate with Safety and Maintenance departments.
- Comply with company policies and procedures and all applicable laws and regulations.
REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
- Highschool, GED, Bachelor’s Degree OR equivalent industry experience (1 Year Minimum).
PREFERRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
- Highschool, GED, Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Logistics, Supply Chain, Transportation, Business, or any combination OR equivalent experience (1 Year Minimum)
REQUIRED SKILLS (TECHNICAL, CLERICAL, LANGUAGE, ETC.)
- Knowledgeable of the Transportation, Operations, and/or Logistics industries
- Analytical thinking - Ability to resolve conflict and problems diplomatically
- Computer Skills: Proficient with computer technology, able to learn company specific programs, & access GPS monitoring programs.
- Language Skills - Fluent in English, good communication skills written & spoken
- Interpersonal Skills - ability to work with different personalities (drivers, customers, vendors, etc)
