Position Description
The System/Network Administrator II will play a crucial role in managing and optimizing our organization's IT infrastructure. This position requires advanced technical expertise in network systems, server management, and security protocols. The successful candidate will demonstrate a high level of problem-solving skills, provide technical support, and ensure the reliability and security of our systems. This role reports directly to the IT Director and involves significant responsibility for maintaining and enhancing our IT environment.
This position requires compliance with the Center’s Compliance Program and Standards of Conduct and applicable policies and procedures. Such compliance will be considered as part of a regular performance appraisal. Failure to comply with the Center’s standards, including the failure to report any conduct or event that potentially violates legal or compliance requirements, will be met by the enforcement of disciplinary action, up to and including possible termination.
Essential Job Functions
Technical Assignments and Problem-Solving
- Develop solutions to routine technical problems and work on assignments requiring considerable judgment and initiative.
- Resolve technical issues and provide advanced technical support and troubleshooting for complex network and system-related problems.
- Maintain detailed documentation for advanced configurations, operations, and troubleshooting procedures.
IT Advisory and Integration
- Advise the IT Director on hardware/software integration and automation.
- Manage Microsoft Entra, Active Directory, and domain configurations.
Scripting and Automation
- Utilize scripting and automation tools, such as PowerShell, to streamline processes and enhance system efficiency.
- Perform routine scans, maintenance, and patching at the host level to ensure optimal system performance, security, and compliance.
- Automate onboarding and offboarding processes making use of MS Power Platform.
System and Network Management
- Configure, maintain, and optimize advanced network equipment, including enterprise-level routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points.
- Monitor and analyze network performance, identify and resolve issues to ensure system availability and reliability.
- Design and implement VPNs and secure remote access solutions.
- Install, configure, and maintain server environments and enterprise-level applications.
- Perform regular system checks, updates, patches, and security configurations.
Security Management
- Conduct regular security audits, vulnerability assessments, and penetration tests.
- Respond to and resolve advanced security incidents and breaches, implementing corrective measures.
Technical Support and Mentoring
- Provide technical support to staff and mentor fellow staff members.
- Lead training sessions and small teams.
Network Infrastructure Planning
- Assess, plan, and implement network and system expansions or upgrades to meet organizational needs.
- Design and implement scalable network architectures to support growing business requirements.
- Coordinate with vendors and service providers for high-level support and procurement.
Lifecycle Management
- Track and maintain lifecycle requirements, recommending replacement, upgrade, or termination of hardware/software.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Education, and Experience
- The minimum education requirement is a bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or comparable area.
- 3-5 years of network administrator experience.
- Ability to analyze data and interpret metrics.
- Ability to maintain organized and detailed records.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to communicate confidently and professionally in both written and oral forms.
