Hiring Range: $20.00 - $25.00
This is an non-exempt (hourly) position. Pay rates are based on education, skill, experience level and internal equity. Internal equity considerations include an assessment of the applicant’s salary history and qualifications in comparison to the market rate and requirements for the job.
This position is for a Library Associate-Children’s Services at SouthPark Regional Library. The Library Associate provides developmentally appropriate programs, resources, and services for children ages 0-11 and their families, caregivers, and educators at the branch. The Library Associate works cooperatively with the Children’s Services division on system-wide projects and initiatives. They provide both in-house branch programs and community outreach. A core component of this position is to deliver reader’s advisory, research help, homework help, and other needed information, resources, and services for children ages 0-11.
The ideal candidate will have a strong knowledge of creative storytelling and programming techniques, as well as a strong knowledge of children’s literature.
They will exhibit a passion for excellent customer service, with a special emphasis on understanding and patience with children. Demonstrated knowledge of the developmental stages of children, as well as broader education trends and issues related to children and their caregivers is needed for this position. The Library Associate must be a highly collaborative team player, as well as a strong individual contributor, with a demonstrated passion and commitment to education, lifelong learning, and solving community challenges. They must have effective organizational and communication skills. The Library Associate must have a high comfort level with technology, including Microsoft Office 365, mobile apps, and customer access software.
This position requires working at least one evening a week, as well as a rotating weekend schedule.

Position Summary
Perform professional and technical library work in Children’s Services. The Library Associate delivers a high level of quality library services ensuring the provision of value-added experiences for all customers.
Essential Functions
Create and deliver programs for ages birth-11.
Provide research assistance and reader’s advisory to customers.
Utilize integrated library systems software.
Provide service desk coverage.
Assist customers at several service points.
Train and assist customers on various library policies, procedures, and processes.
Maintain library’s collection of materials including weeding, shelving, and marketing.
Promote and markets library’s programs; collaborating with Marketing and Communication to generate flyers and materials pertaining to programs.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience:
Minimum of two years of library, retail, computer, or customer service experience.
Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Education/Experience
Combination of relevant education and relevant experience accepted?: Yes
Preferred Qualifications
Bilingual/Spanish speaking
Experience working with preteens, particularly around gaming

Work Environment
Works in a busy children’s department of a regional library branch. The area is often crowded and moderately loud. Time is spent on both the public service desk serving customers, and in a quieter office setting.
