Midsized automotive manufacturer for military and other specialty applications, located near the Northside of Chicago We currently have an opening in the Engineering Department for a Test Engineer.
Primary Responsibilities
- Perform testing of state-of-the art automotive electrical system components.
- Maintain accurate records of test results including test plans and reports.
- Design tests and experiments including in accordance with industry standards.
- Operate rotating and high-power test equipment and test items in a safe manner.
- Design specialized test fixtures and test apparatus.
- Collaborate with Design Engineering, QA and Customers.
- Understand Design of Experiments (DOE) and Accelerated Life Testing (HALT).
- Prepare and conduct formal qualification and first article functional testing.
- Develop innovative processes to increase testing capability and capacity.
- Interface with 3rd Party Test labs for any specialized testing no possible in-house.
Required Technical Background and General Skills
- Mechanical or Electrical Engineering degree.
- Minimum 5+ years’ experience.
- Experience in testing applicable to rotating electric machines and power electronics.
- Familiarity with DAQs and test automation software such as LabView.
- Adobe and Microsoft Office tools.
- Strong verbal and written communication skill.
- Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
- Excellent analytical, problem solving, decision-making and prioritization skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with military and commercial performance and testing standards.
- Experience with commercial automotive performance standards.
- High levels of personal autonomy and motivation.
- Experience with script programming languages for tests automation.
- Experience with simulation tools such as PSpice, Matlab, Simulink, etc.
