The Welder/Fitter will regularly work on laying out, fitting, and welding fabricated, cast, and forged components to assemble structural forms, such as power supply cabinet frames, water tanks, furnace shells, and other heavy metal parts, according to blueprints and knowledge of welding principals. The primary welding processes use MIG and TIG welding. Materials commonly welded are stainless steel, aluminum, and steel.
Candidates will be required to pass an onsite welding test administered by a representative of Ajax.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
· Read blueprints or job orders to meet shop specifications.
· Selects equipment and plans layout, assembly, and welding, applying knowledge of geometry, physical properties of metal machining weld shrinkage, and welding techniques.
· Lays out, positions, aligns, and fits components together. Bolts, clamps, and tack-welds parts to secure in position for welding.
· Sets up equipment and welds parts, using arc, gas-shielded arc, or gas welding equipment May assemble parts by bolting and riveting.
· May repair products by dismantling, straightening, reshaping, and reassembling parts, using cutting torch, straightening press, and hand tools, etc.
· Must perform minor maintenance and clean-up on Assemblies as required.
· Move materials with hand trucks, forklift trucks and cranes as required.
· Must observe all safety regulations. May be required to perform various other functions or duties as directed by supervisor.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
· High-School diploma or equivalent
· 3 or more years of experience in welding TIG, MIG OR 2 or more years of experience in welding TIG, MIG AND a verifiable welding certification
· Ability to pass a Welding Test (Horizontal/Vertical Up)
· Previous experience doing Fitter type work including layouts, fitting, and tacking of pieces and parts
· Must read and interpret schematics and blueprints.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
· Stick and/or pipe welding
· Knowledge of plasma cutter, carbon gouging, and machine shop tools and machines would also be helpful.
