About the Job
The Program Leader assists with the daily operation of the program and planning and implementing the after school activities under the guidelines of the YMCA. They will provide leadership and support in academic, cultural and recreational enrichment. Under the direct supervision of the Director of Youth Development, the Program Leader will provide a safe environment that educates, enlightens and inspires youth in a school setting.
Some of the exciting things you will do as a Program Leader include but are not limited to:
- Lead and assist in preparing a creative environment using academic, cultural and recreational enrichment including the preparation of needed supplies and materials.
- Use age-appropriate methods that include youth development principles.
- Supervise participants in the activity areas.
- Maintain professional attitude, rapport and appearance with all program stakeholders.
- Communicate with school staff, parents and other family members regarding program activities, student needs, academic performance, and events.
- Attend all required staff meetings and trainings.
- Willing to travel to off-site meetings, trainings, and events.
- To perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Minimum 18 years of age for the elementary school programs.
- High School diploma, or GED required
- Must be highly motivated to provide quality program opportunities to youth
- Must be a team player
- Must be comfortable leading physical activities with youth
- Must be available daily Monday -Thursday during youth program hours and weekend availability for certain programs; 20-30 hours per week.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification (can complete upon hire)
- Bilingual preferred
- Experience working with students in grades K-12 in recreational, educational and/or community youth outreach setting.
- Ability to communicate effectively and demonstrate sensitivity to others as well as respond to critical incidents and act swiftly in an emergency situation.
