Responsible for overseeing all design and tooling related activities for all BU’s. Manages the APQP process for all new tooling launches. Responsible for profitability on new or revised tools. Responsible for OTD of tooling and PPAP’s.
Supports the QMS thru maintenance and implementation of procedures associated with this sector of the business.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Can include at a minimum the following; other duties may be assigned by the VP of Operations
1. Project Management for all tooling projects. This includes coordination of scheduling with other departments as needed for tryouts, inspection and shipping.
2. Manages Larsen’s Tool Room in conjunction with Tool Room Supervisor
3. Manages APQP Coordinator
4. Manages all outside tool vendors and designers
5. Responsible for tooling profitability via completion and review of JobBoss closeouts
6. Assists in quotes (both tooling and production) when needed
7. Directly responsible for the OTD of PPAP submissions which is 1 of the company’s metrics
8. Oversees creation of all Job Masters and approves them for use in production. Creates material items.
9. Supports all ELP tooling functions
10. Responsible for hiring, mentoring, training and employee morale for all Tool Room employees
11. Member of the internal “continuous improvement” team via daily meetings and walk-arounds with Production and Quality departments
12. Manages all stages of design reviews and insures integrity of current revision levels on the network
13. Interfaces with Customer’s engineering groups when needed, to ensure manufacturability of products in conjunction with tooling capabilities. Supports DFM wherever possible.
14. Responsible for maintenance of all Tool Room equipment in both locations (MUN and ELP)
Supervisory Characteristics
· Investigates industry related improvement capabilities (eg. CAD software, CNC equipment) to ensure company is providing leading edge technology.
· Knowledge of Business Unit offering and operational processes, customer proposal development, contract negotiations and program management.
· People skills and management capabilities to work with all Business Units teams in unity.
· Demonstrated ability to lead people and obtain results through others.
· Demonstrated ability to organize and manage multiple priorities using team effective problem solving/resolution skill.
· Investigative and strategic mindset
Required Knowledge
· Complete grasp of progressive die design, fixtures, poke-yoke implementation and automation.
· Must be fluent in latest CAD software manipulation
· Must possess tool troubleshooting knowledge
· Technical knowledge in the workings of the APQP process
· Understands GD&T methods and practices
· Strategic Program Management background
· Ability to influence and train others.
· Technical knowledge of R&D/Engineering of Business Units products and services
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $30.00 - $40.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 – 45 per week
