Summary:
CSMI Consulting Group (CSMI), an education consulting company that provides services to charter schools in PA & NJ, is seeking a candidate to become a member of its Finance Team. The Finance Team performs finance and accounting work for CSMI and its charter school clients from a centralized location located at its corporate offices. This position will be responsible for accounting and finance work for CSMI and one charter school client based in NJ. This position works closely with other members of the Finance Team, other departments within CSMI, charter school administration and central office staff and governmental agencies.
The Senior Accountant will be responsible for a broad range of day-to-day accounting and finance activities related to the CSMI and its charter school client based in NJ.
The Senior Accountant reports directly to the Corporate Controller and works directly with Corporate Controller and the Chief Financial Officer.
Primary Responsibilities:
General accounting:
- Prepare and post month-end journal entries
- Perform month end closing procedures and account reconciliations (balance sheet and P&L). Includes bank reconciliations, credit card reconciliation and the preparation of Treasurer Reports (Charter School)
- Analyze monthly accounting results including actual versus budget & forecast
- Maintain chart of accounts
- Audits: Prepare schedules and assist auditors
Grant accounting (Charter School only)
- Track all expenditures related to grants; distribute to internal teams as necessary.
- Submit grant reimbursement requests
- Monthly, quarterly and annual grant reporting. Includes reporting in NJ’s Electronic Web-enable Grant (EWEG) system
- Submit budget adjustments in EWEG as needed
Monthly Financial Reports and Budgeting/Forecasting:
- Prepared monthly updates to financial statements
- Assist with annual budget process and monthly forecasts/budget updates
- Maintain weekly cash flow schedules
Accounts Receivable and Related
- Prepare monthly consulting fee invoices
- Maintain records and related accounting for school district tuition and payments
- Make inquiries regarding overdue payments from school districts
Accounts Payable (CSMI only)
- Enter accounts payable
- Prepare and process weekly check runs
- Prepare 1099’s
Payroll (CSMI only):
- Setup and maintain employee records in Gusto payroll
- Process bi-weekly payroll
- Prepare and submit W-2’s and year end payroll processing
Pension and FICA Reporting (Charter School only)
- Prepare and submit quarterly online report of pension contributions (NJ IROC)
- Prepare and submit monthly FICA tax reimbursement reports in EWEG.
Corporate Insurance (CSMI only)
- Interface with workers compensation auditors and provide all necessary reporting and support
- Prepare information for insurance policy renewals
Benefits (CSMI only)
- Prepare census information for benefit renewals
- Collect and process employee enrollment forms and payroll deduction authorization forms
- Add/delete/change employee information in benefit provider platforms
Special Projects/Other Assignments:
- Perform special projects and other assignments as requested by Corporate Controller and Chief Financial Officer
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree Accounting required
Knowledge and Experience:
- Three to five years of progressive accounting experience aligned to responsibilities of this position.
- Demonstrated record of career growth and the ability to assume increasing levels of responsibility
- Demonstrated strength in process driven approach with an internal control focus
- Experienced in working in both a for profit and educational non-profit environment preferred
- Experienced in the use of QuickBooks highly preferred.
- Experienced in the use of PowerSchool eFinance software application a plus.
- Experience with Gusto payroll system a plus
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (mainly Excel, Word and Outlook).
- Excellent interpersonal skills; collaborative work style
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Must be detailed oriented
- Able to multi-task and work independently to meet goals and deadlines, and be detail oriented.
- Ability to work with a high degree of accuracy.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment in correcting data errors or omissions.
- Strong organizational skills.
This is a 12-month position on-site at CSMI’s corporate office in Chester, PA. Office Hours are 8 am to 5 pm. Applicant must be able to provide a clear Criminal Record & Child Abuse Clearance
